Happy First Friday in January, friends! I hope you all are having a good week. Any plans for the weekend? I am cleaning stuff out, purging, and plan to do quite a bit of reading and blogging. Welcome back to
First Line Friday hosted by Carrie
at Reading is My SuperPower!! I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader
for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and
leave a comment with the first line (or your link). This week I am reading Fresh Scars by Donna Mumma. This is one of the books I was supposed to read last year but I wasn't feeling it. It is MUCH better than I anticipated and sucked me right in.
Letters bearing bad news deserved fiery deaths for the trouble they bring.
Book Beginnings:
Letters bearing bad news deserved fiery deaths for the trouble they bring.
Asia Butler read her landlord's one-paragraph message again, each word twisting her gut into knots. She yanked an antibacterial wipe from teh package in her packet and washer her hands.
The attack was coming.
Breath...relax...breathe.
About the book (from Goodreads):
Time heals all wounds . . . or does it?
Asia
Butler and her sister, Ivy Butler Morelli, have not spoken in fifteen
years. As children, they endured brutal emotional abuse from their
mother, Veronica, and want only to forget the past . . . and each other.
But
the past comes calling when they each receive a letter from Veronica s
attorney promising much needed cash if they will fulfill her dying wish
and consent to cleaning out their childhood home. Asia and Ivy
reluctantly return to their hometown of Emerson, Florida, only to
discover the house is a hoarder's nightmare filled with strange mementos
and clues hinting that they were not the only victims of Veronica's
sadistic nature.
Can this new pain be the path to their healing? Will they be able to choose forgiveness over resentment?
Your
turn! Grab the current book you are reading and post the first line in
the comments! Then, click on the icons below and join the fun there too!
Thank you all for coming by each week, I REALLY appreciate the support
and comments 😀
It sounds like you have a productive weekend planned! My daughter starts back with her dance classes this weekend, and so it's back to the studio for us. I am hoping I can get in some reading and blogging time in between chores and such. I am glad you are enjoying Fresh Scars! Sometimes timing is everything when it comes to enjoyment of a book. The opening you shared is quite ominous. It obviously was bad news! I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI hope it's a productive weekend, I lost my productivity for this day about an hour ago, LOL! I am enjoying the book and look forward to seeing how it ends up! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteToday is my last day of winter break so I am enjoying every second of it. I have so much paperwork to do but I don't want to think about it.
ReplyDeleteVonnie, I understand that completely! Hope you get some good reading in! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteSounds like an excellent plan - I have a toddler who loves mess so I won't be clearing out for many many years 🤣 that book sounds interesting. Quite heavy so I would need to be in that sort of mood...
ReplyDeleteI understand completely...my kids are not toddlers anymore, they are practically grown and we have SO many books we don't read/enjoy or homeschool stuff we are finished with...it's time to let some of it go...plus clothes/coats etc :) Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteWhat a great intro! I'll have to add this one to my wishlist.
ReplyDeleteYvonne, I hope you get a chance to read it. Have a great weekend!
DeleteCan you imagine having to clean out a hoarder's house in the best of circumstances? Yuck! My Friday quotes
ReplyDeleteAnne, no! It's really interesting though!! Have a great weekend!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading A Heart Adrift by Laura Frantz. It is AWESOME!
I'm just beginning chapter 23, so I will share a line from there.
"Henri was on the verge of saying nay to the proposed mission, and he sensed that the governor's council, a body of astute, shrewd men, knew it."
I hope you have a wonderful weekend!
I have not read this one, thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteThe book I featured this week is Pomegranate Lane by Donna Anuszczyk but I'm currently reading With Love, Wherever You Are by Dandi Daley Mackall. I'm just starting it so I'll share the first line from chapter 2 where I am currently: "Frank Daley checked the chart at the foot of the old man's hospital bed." I hope you have a wonderful reading weekend!
I have not heard of this one, thanks for sharing! Have a great weekend!
DeleteI love the sound of this one! A hoarder's nightmare makes such an interesting story.
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a fascinating read!
DeleteThis sounds really interesting! I’m featuring A Stranger’s Game by Colleen Coble on my blog, but I just started reading Stone by Ronie Kendig so I’ll share the first line here: “Some days were meant to test a man; others meant to undo him.” Have a great weekend and happy reading!
ReplyDeleteI need to read Ronie Kendig this year!! I have not read her yet. I also want to read Colleen Coble's newest book. have a great weekend!
DeleteI have a very quiet weekend of reading planned. I like books about estranged family members having to meet up again. This sounds good.
ReplyDeleteWendy, it is! I was hoping to read a lot this weekend too, we'll see. It's been a weird day so far.
DeleteGood weekend plans! We're also focusing on cleaning and organizing this weekend, and I guess for the foreseeable future. This looks like perhaps a dark read, but intriguing.
ReplyDeleteKym, not as dark as I had anticipated, but a different read for sure.
DeleteI've seen this book around the blogosphere a few times but haven't read it yet. I'm currently reading Stone by Ronie Kendig. The first line is "Some days were meant to test a man; others meant to undo him."
ReplyDeleteHi Suzie, Ronie Kendig is one of those authors I want to read but haven't gotten around to yet, hopefully this year! Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend!
DeleteThis sounds really, really good Cindy! I will take a look at this one. Oh gosh, I really shouldn't. But I really WANT to...! It's a constant battle.
