My Review:
Cold Dead Night is the first book in the Brand of Justice series. There are thirteen books in the series and they should be read in order.
If Kenna didn't run fast enough, a child would die tonight.
From the first line, I was hooked. The story is fast-paced and difficult to put down. With the high body count and more occurring almost daily, this one will not be for the faint of heart (although it is not gory, just a slightly darker storyline). I loved the suspense and didn't have a clue as to the bad guy until it was revealed, and then I realized we had had a small hint that I had missed.
I was super annoyed by the way Kenna was treated by the other FBI agents, and Jax, at times as well. It should have been obvious to anyone with a brain that Kenna was not causing trouble, and too much time was spent trying to prove that fact. That part seemed to be a bit repetitive, but I guess I can see why, although that didn't make my annoyance any less.
For those who want a strong romance line, look elsewhere. While there are hints that there might be a budding relationship, this story is very much focused on the suspenseful plot.
★★★★/5
Synopsis (Goodreads):
The FBI betrayed her. Now they need her.
Private
Investigator Kenna Banbury lost everything two years ago at the hands
of a serial killer. From the ashes of that encounter, she’s built a life
she believes in, searching for the lost and forgotten all over the
western US.
Bringing her own brand of justice.
When a
series of murders drags her into an FBI investigation, Kenna finds
herself back in the place where it all went wrong. Struggling to make
sense of the case, Kenna’s past and present collide in a deadly plot

built.
Kenna faces the darkest part of her past in this first book of a brand-new series from Lisa Phillips.

It's brave to jump into a series that already has 13 books! ;D
ReplyDeleteLark, I own this one and I am pretty sure I have no desire to read all thirteen, or at least not right now. I also didn't know it had 13 until I went to write the review. I am pretty sure my library has the next two, and maybe I will read them later.
