My Review:
This is my second time reading Cross Fire, the second novel in the Holly series by C.C. Warrens. If you have been around here any length of time, you know that I consider this series one of my all-time favorites. This series MUST be read in order. There is a thread that goes through the entire series.
He (Marx) narrowed his eyes. "Are you gettin' smart with me?"
"It's my natural disposition."
I had forgotten so much of this story. The bare bones were there, but I had forgotten just how much C.C. packed into each novel.
"Life doesn't usually ask us what we want."
Holly is a survivor. She is small, prickly, has people issues, and is feisty. She has a propensity for stumbling into trouble, always with the best intentions. But she also loves fiercely those she trusts and lets into her inner circle. She does not trust easily, and for good reason.
While this series is heavy (it deals with a stalker, abuse, etc.), the characters are enduring, and I love the subtle humor throughout.
Riveting, emotional, fast-paced. Warning: the book ends on an incredible cliffhanger. Make sure you have the next book! I loved this book, and I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves thriller/suspense books.
Synopsis (Goodreads):
When Holly's worst nightmare steps back into her life, she has to decide whether to stand and fight or flee and survive. As the threads of her life begin to unravel around her, leaving her displaced from her home, terrified, and caught in the middle of a drug battle, she can't help but wonder if she made the wrong choice.
