First Line Friday #9-Come Back to Me

Happy Friday! I hope you are having a great day and looking forward to a relaxing weekend!
Welcome back to First Line Friday, hosted by Hoarding Books!! I will also be linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Friday Beginnings. It’s time to grab the book nearest to you and leave a comment with the first line. This week I am sharing from Come Back to Me by Jody Hedlund. This is a very different read for me as I NEVER read Science Fiction. However, I heard a TON of great things about it so I decided to check it out of the library to see what all the fuss is about 😆

"Your father's in a coma."

This is the first book in the Waters of Time series.

About the book (from Goodreads):

The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy.

That's exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father's quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising.

William Durham, a valiant knight comes to Marian's rescue and offers her protection . . . as his wife. The longer Marian stays in the past, the more she cares about William. Can she ever find her father and make it back to the present to heal her sister? And when the time comes to leave, will she want to?

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund is your guide down the twisting waters of time to a volatile era of superstition, revolts, and chivalry in this suspenseful stor
y.

Did you read this book? Do you feel that it lived up to the hype??

Your turn! Grab the book nearest you and post the first line in the comments!

  1. Hi there Cindy! I'm also not a fan of sci-fi, but this book has actually caught my eye a couple of times already! It's on my TBR and it really does sound good!

Thanks for sharing and reminding me again.

You should add your post to "Book Beginnings" hosted by Gilion over at Rose City Reader. It's a weekly link-up and I normally take part if I have some time to spare.

    Have a good weekend!

    1. I have heard a lot about Jody Hedlund, but I am pretty sure this is the first one that I have read from her (at least in the years I have been faithfully tracking my reading!). The Father He Deserves sounds good as well. Thanks for stopping by!

  4. Pretty good time travel there!
My first line is from the new one by Carrie Stuart Parks, Woman in Shadow:
“Why are those dogs barking?” I pointed across the wooden picnic table toward two obviously upset canines yelping nearby.
    Fabulous book!

  5. I have not read this book, but that first line sure is a good one, and it seems to set the tone for the book. My first line is "I am up in the clouds now, drumming my fingernails on a countertop." From Twice Shy by Sarah Hogle.
