I started this blog on May 1, 2021. I had 0 followers 😂 As 2021 closed out I had 40 follower, at the end of 2022 I had 58 followers. I had a goal for 2022 to reach 60 followers and it did not happen.
I realized as I looked at last years book goals, I mostly listed my challenges I was doing (which I completed with the exception of literary challenges, and one of my goals is to finish it this year). I will not list out my 2023 reading challenges here since I have a separate page for that and have already done a post for it as well.
Here are my 2023 Bookish Goals:
- Read 150 books for the Goodreads Challenge- this is less than last year because I want to try and read some thicker books (but when I looked at my TBR most are under 500 pages 🤦😂)
- Cut back on buying books....
- So I can read more of what I own (I read 48 books on my physical shelves last year but probably added at least that many back in)
- Participate in less book challenges to make room for other goals and mood reading
- Read more male authors-I predominately read female authors (88%)
- Try some of the new to me authors that I have been saying for the last year I want to try
- Work on completing book series I have already started
- While I would still like to reach the goal of 60+ followers I can't control this-especially since I am mostly a Christian fiction book blogger, it doesn't appeal to as many readers as other genres do, so it's more of a wish list item, LOL!
Good goals. Someone just said "Remember Who Recommended a Book" and that should be on my list. As to #2, I think we all try that and fail tremendously.
ReplyDeleteAs to followers, I think 60 is quite a good number. I have never "tried" to gain more and my first ones were all members from my former book club. In the meantime, I have 81, that is still an alright number to stay in touch with them. Sometimes I see people with hundreds or even thousands of followers. I guess that's just in order to make money and I wonder whether they have so much fun as we do and I doubt they are in touch with all of them. So, carry on doing what you like and you're good. I enjoy your blog, even though we don't read many similar books.
Aw, thanks Marianne, I appreciate all your kinds words and encouragement! Yes, I meant to add "Remember who recommended a book" to my goal list as well, thanks for the reminder!!
DeleteI thought that was a good one but didn't think about it myself, either.
DeleteFun list of goals, Cindy! I need to work on catching up and completing book series, too. And fingers crossed you reach 60 followers this year! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks Lark, I have started making a list of book series I have started, and there are more than I thought, so once I make the list I will need to narrow it down, LOL! But, once I have a list, at least I know where my focus needs to be!
DeleteI read mostly female authors as well. You only need two more followers for 60! You can do it! Good luck with all your goals.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kami :)
DeleteGood luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteI mostly read female authors, too. You’re not alone there. :)
My post: https://lydiaschoch.com/top-ten-tuesday-bookish-goals-for-2023/
Lydia, thanks! I am starting to see I am not the only one reading mostly female authors...
DeleteGreat list of goals, good luck with all of these!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lindsey!!
DeleteIt’s so hard to stop buying books. Great goals. Regine

Thanks Regine, do you set any bookish goals for the year?
DeleteI share your goals of wanting to read more books I own and finishing series, although that isn't a specific focus for me this year. That's interesting that you want to read more male authors, I haven't calculated my women to men ratio but it's probably mostly female. Good luck with your goals this year!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI'm way better (still could improve!) about buying books, but now I need to actually READ those I own. :) Thanks so much for visting my website this week.
ReplyDeleteRissi, I have been good this month, LOL!
DeleteIt seems like a lot of book bloggers want to cut back on buying books!
ReplyDeleteMy Top Ten Tuesday List
Lectrice, the first step to overcoming a problem is admitting to having a problem, LOL!
DeleteI have followed you Cindy, but I don't get emails when you post, like I do with so many other blogs I follow. I have seen several of the goals you mentioned on many other blogs today. I think we all want to read more of our own books as well as cut back on requesting ARCs or buying books. I wish you luck with your goals.
ReplyDeleteCarla, I think blogger stopped sending emails. I probably need to switch to another platform but that is completely overwhelming.
DeleteI made my Goodreads goal lower this year too. Best of luck to you with your goals
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy!
DeleteIt's interesting to me that you read more female authors (although when I look at my reading, if I'm reading ebooks I'm more female authors, but my physical books tend to be by more male authors). Have a wonderful week and good luck with all your goals. - Katie
ReplyDeleteThanks Katie!
DeleteGood luck on your goals, especially the no buy goal. I also want to really be more strict with that!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarita, I hope we both fare well.
DeleteGood luck on your goals! I'm planning on 120 books, and focusing on my TBRs, as well as more books in Italian and Spanish
ReplyDeleteEmma, good luck with your goals!
DeleteThis is a great list! I also want to read more of the books I own, and read more books written by male authors, since I didn't realize how many female authors I read books by until the end of the year and was surprised at the difference! Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteThanks Leah!
DeleteThese are good goals! I like that some of them will require some effort, but none of them are unachievable.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rachel, hopefully that turns about to be true, LOL!
DeleteGreat list. I probably should have added Cut back on buying books to my list as well.
ReplyDeleteHarini, right? But truthfully, what's the fun in that?!
DeleteI know a lot of readers are put off by Christian fiction, but I'm actually really excited about the direction the genre is going. I'm finding more and more Christian novels that are well-written, wholesome, and uplifting without being silly, preachy, or cheesy. I enjoy finding these via Christian book blogs, so keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteOh, and I'm the same when it comes to female authors. Not sure why I read so many more of them than their male counterparts, especially when there are tons of men writing the mysteries and thrillers I love so much. Weird.
Happy TTT (on a Friday)!

Susan, I agree. I used to not like as much Christian fiction as I do now, because it was to in your face! I am hoping to find some new male authors I love (in addition to the few I already do), but I think the struggle is that most male authors write genres (like fantasy) that I don't read...but we'll see!
DeleteThose are great goals. Good luck achieving them! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Meezan!
DeleteFantastic goals, we will rock this! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sarah!!!
DeleteGood luck with all of your goals, Cindy, and I just realized I wasn't following your blog so I just pushed you to 60 followers. :)
ReplyDeleteLOL, thanks so much, Suzanne!! I appreciate it ;)
DeleteOh I like the one about finishing series you've already started!!! I need to add that to my list :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Jessica, I have made my list, so I am closer than I was!!
DeleteIf it makes you feel better, I follow blogs through Inoreader which wouldn't show up on your follower count, I don't think. There are probably more of us like that out there than you may know. :-)
ReplyDeleteThese are all great goals! I tend to read more female authors too. I blame blogging for that--at least in my case. I used to read more male authors in my pre-blogging days. And I'm with you on working through those series! I just need to stop starting new ones, which is proving to be too difficult for me. LOL Good luck with all your reading goals this year!
