Sunday Spotlight: The Bristol Park Detective

I decided to do something new today. I am taking a book that I have read and loved that has less than 100 reviews on Goodreads and giving it some love!

Title: The Bristol Park Detective

Series: Contemporary Reboot #1

Author: Ellie Thornton

Genre: Romantic Suspense/Contemporary Romance

73 ratings and 24 reviews

My review:

I loved this book, it had suspense, romance, and humor! It was such a different concept than your normal mystery/suspense type book. It mostly takes place at Regencyland, which is a place where you dress from that era (Regency). There were quite a few surprises in the book. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good, clean mystery. This was one of my favorite books of 2020 and it makes me sad that so few have read/rated/reviewed it! If it sounds good to you, pick it up, read it and then review it! It doesn't have to be long, let's get this author some book love! (free on Kindle Unlimited if you have it!)

★★★★/5

Snapshot from the book:
Yawning wide, Shea yanked the door open. Mr. Daley stood ready for the day with his hands in his pockets and a beaming smile. “Cousin Elizabeth, don’t you look charming first thing in the morning.” Her gaze fell on his cravat and blurred. She blinked. Wow, those things are big. Daley cleared his throat and pointed to his face. “My eyes are up here.”

About the book (from Goodreads):

Elizabeth Shea has one goal: be promoted to Series Crimes with the Sacramento Police Department. At twenty-five, she’s the youngest detective in her department’s history—a position she’s lived for—but instead of advancement she’s relegated to “binky squad.”

When a high-profile murder case ends up on her boss’s desk, Shea thinks everything’s about to change; that is until she’s assigned a babysitting detail in a regency themed resort called Bristol Park.

Despite being frustrated with her boss, her empire-waist dress, her lack of regency knowledge, and being unarmed, she’s determined to do her best.

Things are going well until one of the actors begins to pester her, she starts to fall for another, and she discovers the woman in her care really is in danger.

With her charge’s life, her career, and her heart at stake, Shea’ll have to be on her guard 24/7 to get the happy ending she hopes for and discover who is behind the Bristol Park murders.

I also read book #2

Title: The Prisoner of  Lazerev

25 ratings and 11 reviews

My Review:

Ellie Thornton once again writes a mystery/suspense novel that is different from anything else I have read. This premise of this book was quite unexpected. It had a few twists and turns, but it is a bit darker than the first book. I can't wait to see what the third book will be about. Also one of my favorites from 2020!

About the book (Amazon):

They thought he was dead . . .

Now they’ll never see him coming.

When 18-year-old Patrick Daley arrives home in Sacramento with his traveling circus, he’s desperate to look into his mother’s missing person case.

After a reckless attempt to shine a big, obnoxious light on her disappearance, Patrick finally gets the help he’s wanted.

It’s not until he’s kidnapped, and thrown into a Siberian work camp, that he discovers how close he was to solving his mom’s case.

Ten years later, with revenge in his heart and a fortune hidden in a secret account gifted to him by a spiritual, old coot, Patrick escapes and finds his way home. He’s all set to face the men who betrayed him until he meets the girl he left behind all those years ago. As a girl, Elizabeth Shea had a high moral code—as a woman, she wears a badge.

Proceeding as planned will not only cost him his freedom, but the one person whose memory gave him the strength to survive the unthinkable.

In The Bristol Park Detective, Patrick Daley and Elizabeth Shea fell in love, but when their memories are rebooted, they must find their connection again in this romantic crime mystery retelling of the classic novel The Count of Monte Cristo. (Can be read as a standalone novel.)

A Christian romantic suspense worth reading. A thriller based on faith.

By doing this I reminded myself I need to go back and read the rest of this series 😀 JOIN THE FUN OF SUNDAY SPOTLIGHT!! Drop a book/author you loved that has less than 100 reviews/ratings on Goodreads to help spread some book/author love!

  1. What a good idea to give some overlooked books a little extra love! I was not aware of this series, but both of these books sound like fun reads, especially the one set in Regencyland. :)
