My Review:
A Distance Too Grand is the first book that I have read by Regina Scott. It is fist in the American Wonders Collection.
It was interesting to see Meg Pero force her way into being a photographer with the Army in 1871. I imagine it was not very common during that time period. She is a strong woman and good at her job.Ben Coleridge is not thrilled when Meg forces her way, especially with their history between them. However, he does need a photographer and he knows Meg is good at her job.
I loved all the descriptions of the Grand Canyon. The author brought the story alive with her descriptions. I did not connect with the characters, they were well developed, but their was a disconnect for me.
I would recommend A Distance Too Grand to those who enjoy historical fiction romance novels, light on the romance, heavy on the history and descriptions.
★★★/5
Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Meg Pero has been
assisting her photographer father since she was big enough to carry his
equipment, so when he dies she is determined to take over his
profession--starting with fulfilling the contract he signed to serve on
an Army survey of the North Rim of the Grand Canyon in 1871. What she
doesn't realize is that the leader of the expedition is none other than
the man she once refused to marry.
Captain Ben Coleridge would
like nothing more than to leave without the woman who broke his heart.
He can't afford to be distracted during this survey, which is a screen
for another, more personal mission, one he cannot share with any member
of his team.
As dangers arise from all sides--and even from
within--Meg and Ben must work together to stay alive, fulfill their
duties, and, just maybe, rekindle a love that neither had completely
left behind.
I have to admit, I really liked this one. Scott's next book, Nothing Short of Wondrous, is set in Yellowstone, and is an even better read than this one. :)
ReplyDeleteLark, good to know :)
DeleteI love the setting of this! The Grand Canyon is close by and I visit it often. The North rim is a bit wild and remote even today, so I can just imagine how wild it was back then. Nice review, Cindy
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I would LOVE to visit it, what a joy to be able to do it often!
