My review:
The Engagement Plot by Krista Phillips is my first introduction to this author. I own several books of hers on my Kindle, and have several others on my TBR.
I have mixed feelings about this book. It is a lot of things:
-Romantic Comedy
-miscommunication (one of my pet peeves)
-fake relationship
-enemies to lovers
-messages of trust and forgiveness
-strong family ties
-small-town Minnesota
-unexpected depth
While the book is advertised as a reality TV show, the reality is the story takes place months after the show, and so we only see glimpses of what happened on the show.
I liked Hanna but thought she was a little too naive at times. I didn't care as much for Will as he mostly wanted the relationship for what he could get out of it. Regardless, The Engagement Plot was the lighthearted read I needed it to be in the middle of some heavier reads. I did enjoy the book and look forward to reading more by this author.

Synopsis (Goodreads):
Can Hanna and Will Find True Love amid the Bright Lights of Reality TV?
Perfect for the fans of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette!
Six months ago, William stole Hanna’s heart and shattered it in front
of millions of people on a reality TV dating show. And now the big-wig
CEO is back on Hanna’s home turf in Minnesota and wants her to forgive
him? Fat chance of that. But life is swirling around faster than snow in
a blizzard, and despite her objections, teaming up with William seems
like the only option to rescue her reputation.
William has never regretted anything more than the day he gave that
ill-fated interview for the reality show, The Price of Love. But while
he can’t change the past, he’s determined to fix the future. He just
needs to convince Hanna to forgive him—and pretend to be engaged with
him. Simple, right?
When the media erupts with even worse
accusations, teaming up and pretending to be engaged seems to be the
only way to salvage their reputations. Despite the media frenzy that
swirls around them, an attraction neither of them can fight off begins
to surface. Could this love run deeper than a scandal, or will old
wounds tear them apart once and for all? When all seems lost, it’s only
with help from above that Hanna and Will may find their
happily-ever-after.
It does sound like a nice lighthearted read. When I read your list of what the book is, I realized something about myself as a reader. Miscommunication drives me crazy - and I hadn't realized that is why I sometimes don't like a certain plot.
ReplyDeleteGretchen, it does me too.
DeleteGlad you still enjoyed it; that whole miscommunication thing in romances is always frustrating.
ReplyDeleteLark, 100% agree. There has to be some people who enjoy it though or it wouldn't be written!
DeleteLooks like a nice easy read. I'm glad you liked it overall.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy!
DeleteSometimes those easy fluff reads are necessary mixed in with the heavy stuff. It's why I have been reading more YA thrillers lately.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I totally agree!
DeleteThis one looks and sounds really familiar so probably one I saw a lot on Instagram when it released. It does sound cute, but I know what you mean about the miscommunication thing. It can be done well but sometimes it's too much.
ReplyDeleteRissi, I am not sure where I heard of it but it looked fun so I had added it to my TBR. I have been trying to read from the TBR so have a huge stack of library books ;)
