The Gilmore Girls Companion

Title: The Gilmore Girls Companion

Author: A. S. Berman

Genre: Nonfiction, Television, Pop Culture

Publisher: BearManor Media

Source: Library

My review:

I happened uponThe Gilmore Girls Companion by A. S. Berman in the library. I immediately grabbed it because I did not know it existed. I loved the TV show.

The Gilmore Girls Companion is everything you ever wanted to know about Gilmore Girls and more. The book talks about how the show came into existence, the casting, the writers, the change of writers, etc.

I appreciated the brief synopsis given for each episode. I felt like I was watching the show again. It reminded me of what I loved about Gilmore Girls and what I had forgotten I disliked about it.

This is a thorough companion, as much as a book like this can be, but it is not meant to be read like a novel. This guide is for true Gilmore fans who want to revisit the series over and over again.

★★★★/5

Synopsis (Goodreads):

From 2000 to its final episode in 2007, Gilmore Girls raised the bar for television writing, redefined the dramatic comedy, and cultivated a dedicated fan base not seen since the heights of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. However, unlike Buffy, little has been published about what went on behind-the-scenes of Gilmore Girl. Until now. The Gilmore Girls Companion provides the first detailed account of the creation of this groundbreaking series, based on dozens of exclusive interviews with the actors and behind-the-camera talent who brought Stars Hollow to life.

  2. I loved The Gilmore Girls, too, though the last seasons weren't as good as the first three. But the cast was so much fun. This book is one I'd probably enjoy, too.

    1. Lark, I agree, I got so annoyed with some of the choices in the later seasons. It was fun to walk through it with the book.

  4. My mom and sister loved The Gilmore Girls but I was working night shift when it was on and just couldn't keep up with any shows. It might make a good gift idea for my family. I'm glad you liked it!

  6. Thank you so much for the kind words about The Gilmore Girls Companion, Cindy! I was especially pleased to hear you found it in a library. Can you tell me which library that was? All my life I've longed to see one of my books in a library (I grew up in libraries ;-)) and never have, so I was thrilled to learn here that somewhere in this world at least one of my books has a little home on a library shelf. All the best to you – Aaron (AS) Berman https://www.aaronsberman.com/
