Women of the Word

Title: Women of the Word: How to Study the Bible with Both Our Hearts and Our Minds

Author: Jen Wilkin

Publisher: Crossway

Genre: Christian Nonfiction, Theology, Christian Living, Bible Study

My Review:

This is my second time reading Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin. While my original review still stands, I will also say that I got SO much more out of it the second time.

Do you know that the word disciple means "learner"? As a disciple of Christ, you and I are called to learn, and learning requires effort. It also requires good study methods.

This is a fabulous resource for learning how to study the Bible, not just reading it, but applying it and digging deeper into what the Word/Scripture portion is saying.

Original review:

From the quote in the foreword from Ed Clowney to her comments on active imitation in the conclusion, Jen packs quite a few thought-provoking statements into this small book. While it could be considered a "how to" manual, the humor and depth that Jen puts into it prevents it from being a dry manual. This book is written as much for the well-versed Biblical scholar as it is for the new believer. This book has nuggets that will challenge and encourage us all. It is one that I will come back to again and again. My only regret is that I did not read it sooner.

★★★★★/5

Synopsis (Amazon):

Many Christian women find great encouragement and joy in and through women's Bible studies. However, popular Bible teacher Jen Wilkin is concerned that sometimes we let our emotions rule our study of Scripture and forget that the Bible is primarily about God, not us. Challenging hungry women to go deeper in their study of Scripture, this book will help you refocus your efforts on feeding your mind first and foremost. Whether you're young or old, married or single, this accessible volume will energize and equip you for Bible study aimed at transforming both the heart and mind.

  2. I hear so many things about Jen Wilkin but have only read short clips of her work. Thanks for bringing her to our attention, Cindy. Easter blessings to you and yours. He is risen indeed, just like He said He would!
