My Review:
The gorgeous quilt on the cover of Zero Waste Quilting by Patty Murphy is what made me grab this book at the library.
I love the premise of this book. The author shares four main quilting projects, and then smaller projects that will use up the leftover scraps, so there is literally zero waste!
Everybody's quilting style is different, so I loved two of the main quilting ideas, but thought the other two were just ok (not my style). However, I appreciate that not all the quilts were one style/color scheme.
Before diving into the projects in the book, the author discusses ways to organize your stash, making it easier to find what you need, what tools you will need for quilting, and several other tips and tricks of the trade. She also takes the time to teach you the basic block constructions that you will need to know to do the main projects.
I also appreciated the author's ingenuity with the side projects she chose to include in this book. There is something for everyone, and even if you don't like her ideas, they are great for jump-starting your creativity.
I was disappointed that the first quilt in the book, on the very first page, was not represented (pattern-wise) in the book. I loved it would like to know how to make it. However, that is my only negative comment, and it is more from my disappointment than a negativity of the book itself, LOL.
Zero Waste Quilting would make a great addition to any quilter's home library. I hope to someday have a copy for my sewing room.
