Review:
Well, I have reached the end of the currently written Journals of Emma M. Lion. I am thankful this one doesn't leave off on a cliffhanger since I have no idea when the next one will be written.
I enjoyed this volume, but it was a lot more intense than the earlier journals. I guess this is what happens when secrets are revealed, or rather, come knocking at your door. I also felt like there were not as many humorous moments in the story.
I am not happy with the amount of curse words that continue to creep in. I understand they are part of Pierce's character, but it's not something I want to read. The first few journals had little to no cursing, but the cursing had progressed in each journal.
I do continue to love the found family aspect and the revealing of each character's past, but I also hope to get more out of the next volume.

Synopsis: (Goodreads)
"Strange, considering it all now after a night's
sleep, that I'd had no premonition of what awaited. That seems to be
the nature of life, however. Things that ought to come with warnings
rarely do. "
The Year is 1884 and Emma M. Lion has, at long last,
gained her majority. Entering a golden age of friendship with Pierce,
Islington, and Hawkes, Emma is confident she will manage whatever comes
her way. It is The Season she must help Arabella secure a husband, while
navigating the threat of Aunt Eugenia, the unflagging adoration of
Charles Goddard, and the amusing unpredictability of St. Crispian's. But
the secrets of her trusted friends are what might very well bring about
disaster.
Emma M. Lion offers up her Unselected Journals,
however self-incriminating they may be. Armed with wit and a sideways
amusement, Emma documents the curious realities of her life at Lapis
Lazuli House.
Readers have compared The Unselected Journals of
Emma M. Lion to Jane Austen, P.G. Wodehouse, L. M. Montgomery, and Jean
Webster.
How interesting. I’ve not heard of this series, but am eager to at least check it out. Yes, generous amounts of cursing in books are a turn off for me as well.
ReplyDeletePatricia, I have LOVED this series. This is my least favorite book of the series, I think.
DeleteI wish I knew when the next one will come out. (I hope there will be a next one!) This is such a charming series. I can't wait to see what happens to Emma M. Lion next. :D
ReplyDeleteLark, there are going to be more, she said around 23-25 journals! But, I haven't seen anywhere when she might be releasing the next one!
