My Review:
I am hooked. Emma is hilarious, and Beth Brower is a new favorite author! There is not a lot you can say about Emma's journal entries without being spoilery, but I will do my best.
I have noticed that each journal spans a month. Book 3 is September, and the London season is coming to a close. I am enjoying Emma's interactions with the gentlemen she meets, and of course, I am always trying to figure out who she will end up with, if any of the ones we met thus far!
Archibald is a snake, I can't stand him, but boy does he give Emma opportunities for character growth, LOL!
I am enjoying the aspects of found family that seem to be emerging as well.
If you haven't started the journals yet, what are you waiting for? Although, from Beth's own words, there will be about 25 journals...so once I get to the currently released number 8, I am going to be sad to move on, LOL!
★★★★★/5
Synopsis (Goodreads):
"It has been a day ordained by the fates, for how else could one explain the wholly cursed chain of events?"
The Year is 1883 and Emma M. Lion has returned to her London Neighbourhood of St. Crispian's. But Emma's plan for a charmed and studious life are sabotaged by her eccentric Cousin Archibald, her formidable Aunt Eugenia, and the slightly odd denizens of St. Crispian's.
Emma M. Lion offers up her Unselected Journals, however self-incriminating they may be, which comprise a series of volumes. Armed with wit and a sideways amusement, Emma documents the curious realities of her life at Lapis Lazuli House.
Aren't these books the best? I love them. They're so funny! And Emma and her collection of gentleman friends who have become family are priceless. These are books you need to own. Brower is such a good writer. I love all the little jewels she drops into her writing so effortlessly, like when Emma's aunt comes to visit and she says something about 'an infection of relatives'. This whole series will be at the top of my favs list at the end of this year. And I hope she does write 25 of them. :D
ReplyDeleteLark, yes, they are fabulous!! In the first book I kept looking for her love interest. I thought maybe Hawkes, then Niall, but then I wasn't sure, LOL! I do own them, I bought all 8 and I am sad I am almost finished with book 4, LOL, because then I am over half done with what is already out.
