My Review:

My husband and I listened to The Highland Heist by Pepper Basham on our trip this week. I have read the first three books, but he has not. I think the books are best read in chronological order so that you understand everything mentioned. However, I only had to stop the recording once to explain something to my husband; he got the gist of everything else. I thought the narration was okay.

Frederick decided to end their honeymoon with a surprise trip to Grace's family, only to discover that everything had changed. In addition, Grace's father was off to visit his sister, so she didn't get to see him. It's just as well, because when they get to her sister, Lillias's house, they find her standing over Tony's dead body. From there, everything is utter chaos, especially as Lillias is the prime suspect in the murder.

Of course, Grace and Freddie jump in and try to save the day. Secrets are revealed, and more people are hurt before they leave America and head off to Scotland in search of their inheritance.

There is a huge plot twist in the middle of the book. I just wanted to pause the narration to process it, but couldn't; I had to know what had happened, and what was going to happen next.

There were a few things where I felt like things couldn't have happened the way they did, but it's fiction, so I accepted it as part of the story. Overall, another strong Freddie and Grace Mystery, probably my second favorite, as my favorite is still The Mistletoe Countess.

★★★★/5

The clock is ticking to clear Lillias of suspicion, but someone is determined to keep the sisters from reaching the Scottish Highlands. When Lillias disappears, Freddie and Grace race to Scotland, sure the answers will be found in a long-forgotten castle.

    1. Lark, same! I am pretty sure book 5 is coming out next year, I will continue the series, but I don't know if any will measure up to the first one.
