Series: Secrets of Kincaid #2
Author: Angela Carlisle
Source: Library
My Review:
Shadowed Witness is the second book in the Secrets of Kincaid series. While I would recommend reading them in order, this one could be read as a standalone novel. The story does allude to things that happened in the previous book, but it gives enough context that the reader wouldn't be lost.
I liked this story, but not as much as the first.
Here are the parts that annoyed me:
Allye knows what happened to her, but then she starts to doubt herself. It got on my nerves.
It was obvious who one of the key players/bad guys was from the beginning. I prefer to be kept guessing, rather than figuring it out so early.
Overall, this is a solid mystery, and there were several surprises along the way. I like that the romance took a bit of time, as the characters got to know each other better. I loved the found family aspect, which is always a winner with me.
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Murder--that's what photographer Allye Jessup
knows she witnessed as she departed her studio one evening. Waking with
bruises on her neck and a foggy memory, she believes she survived an
attack, but everyone seems to think she simply sustained a head injury
from falling down the stairs of her studio. Plagued by an undiagnosed
health condition, she is torn between the haunting reality of what she
may have seen and the possibility that her mind is playing tricks on
her.
Without proof the other victim ever existed, Detective
Eric Thornton can hardly declare the area a murder scene. Still, he adds
Allye's report to his already full caseload. But when new evidence
surfaces to support her claims, Eric must stay one step ahead of a
ruthless killer and uncover the truth before the suspect closes in on
Allye again.
Angela Carlisle once again presents cutting-edge romantic suspense laced with danger, deception, and justice.
