Uncomplicate It

Title: Uncomplicate it: Permission to Enjoy God In Your Unique Way

Author: Hosanna Wong

Source: Thomas Nelson

My Review:

When I first saw this book, I was like, "I don't need it." Yet I was curious, so I requested it for review. You guys, this is a book that I didn't know I needed! I alternated between savoring it and rushing through it! There are SO many nuggets of wisdom in this book, I have a gazillion things highlighted.

God did not invite you to be in a relationship with Him and then ask you to abandon all the details of the personality He created you with.

This book is well-researched, which is something I REALLY appreciate in nonfiction. I am sure I am not going to do the book justice with my review, but I am certainly going to try.

The only way to have a real relationship with God is to have one with Him in the middle of your real life.

One of the first things the author did before writing this book was to ask a thousand people from around the world about their experiences connecting with God. She asked them two questions: "What has stood in the way of you connecting with God? What is a unique way you have found to connect with God?" Obviously, the author can't share all of the responses from all the participants, but there are many anecdotes shared throughout the book. The author draws on her personal experiences, the answers she received from the participants, the Bible, and two experts in vineyards to craft this book. The result is easily readable and relatable.

Even though Jesus was often moved with compassion and open to distractions, He didn't let everyone's desires and demands derail Him.

This book is not a one-size-fits-all personality. It encourages each reader to look at specific personality traits and use what they learn to worship God.  Your traits are going to be different than mine, and we are going to worship God differently, and that is good and right! That is how it is supposed to be. God did not create us all the same, nor does He expect our time with Him to be the same.

The truth? You don't have to edit your prayers.

If you have ever thought you were worshipping wrong, or your relationship with God isn't strong, or your relationship with God is perfect, or any number of things, I highly encourage you to read this book. It's not earth-shattering things, but it is a useful tool to point us toward God and being comfortable in worshipping Him in our own unique abilities and personalities. I can't say enough good things about this book.

Thank you to the author and Thomas Nelson for the opportunity to read this book. I am not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

★★★★★/5
