First Line Friday-#17 A Change in Tune

Happy Friday! I hope you are having a great day and looking forward to a relaxing weekend! I know I am 😀  We will be on the lake most of the day Saturday and it is most likely the last time of the season. Welcome back to First Line Friday which had been hosted by Hoarding Books and has recently moved to Reading is My SuperPower!! To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line.  This week I am reading A Change in Tune by Ashley Rescot.

Victoria Pearson clutched the neck of her violin as musicians filed onto the stage of Belton University’s concert hall.

I will also be linking up with Gilion at Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading.

BOOK BEGINNINGS:

Victoria Pearson clutched the neck of her violin as musicians filed onto the stage of Belton University’s concert hall. Habit urged her to follow suit, but her new position as first chair kept her backstage––alone. Nervous anticipation quickened her pulse. A cacophony of flute trills and trumpet blasts bombarded her ears as the members of the orchestra warmed up. She smoothed the wrinkles in her black dress. This time, everything must be perfect.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Violinist Victoria Pearson dreams of attending Johann Conservatory of Music in New York City for graduate school. As the oldest of five sisters, she hopes to escape her Midwestern college town and hectic family situation to fulfill her passion in life—music. But when she decides to participate in Belton University's Concerto competition to bolster her chances of acceptance, Victoria finds herself competing against her sister Adrienne and lifelong cellist friend Jerry Chang. This sets in motion a rivalry that questions the roles of sisterhood, friendship, and maybe love.

Victoria wants to maintain the rigors required of a professional classical musician without losing her family and friends, not to mention her sanity, in the process. The demands of her large family might hinder her ability to achieve her dreams. What sacrifices will she make to reach her goals, and are they worth the cost?

A new, twenty-first-century generation of little women takes the stage in A Change in Tune.

What do you think? Would you keep reading?

Your turn! Grab the current book you are reading and post the first line in the comments! Then, do the Book Beginnings and join the fun there too!

I'm starting the novella collection Always a Wedding Planner and the first line of the first story, Finally a Sweetheart by Toni Shiloh, is: "The musical strands of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 filled the air as Felicity Edwards carefully piped intricate scrolls on the future Schwartzes’ wedding cake."

My FLF post features A Midnight Dance by Joanna Davidson Politano: https://daniellegrandinetti.com/2021/09/17/first-line-friday-a-midnight-dance/

  2. I think I would enjoy this. I have a grand-daughter who plays the violin and a son who spent a semester of college in Venice studying Vivaldi and Antonio Stradivari

    1. I have not gotten very far in it yet. My daughter played violin for a while, I wish she had stayed with it, she was a natural. That is very exciting that your son spent time in Venice studying music!!
