Happy Friday! I hope you are having a great day and looking forward to a relaxing weekend! Welcome to First Line Friday which had been hosted by Hoarding Books and recently moved to Reading is My SuperPower!! To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line. This week I am reading The Lines Between Us by Amy Lynn Green.
From Gordon Hooper to Dorie Armitage
November 25, 1941
Dear Dorie,
When a girl asks a fellow to write to her, is one day after leaving too soon?
I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading.
Book Beginnings:
From Gordon Hooper to Dorie Armitage
November 25, 1941
Dear Dorie,
When a girl asks a fellow to write to her, is one day after leaving too soon? I bet it is.
But honestly, Dorie, it isn't fair. Whenever I try to study, my mind drifts back to the time we spent together last week. The way you fired back witty replies before I could catch a breath. Your laugh that sounded like sleigh bells.
Synopsis (from Goodreads):
Since the attack on
Pearl Harbor, Gordon Hooper and his buddy Jack Armitage have done “work
of national importance” in the West as conscientious objectors:
volunteering as smokejumpers, parachuting into and fighting raging
wildfires. But the number of winter blazes they’re called to in early
1945 seems suspiciously high, and when an accident leaves Jack badly
injured, Gordon realizes the facts don’t add up.
A member of the
Women’s Army Corps, Dorie Armitage has long been ashamed of her
brother’s pacificism, but she's shocked by news of his accident.
Determined to find out why he was harmed, she arrives at the national
forest under the guise of conducting an army report...and finds herself
forced to work with Gordon. He believes it’s wrong to lie; she’s willing
to do whatever it takes so justice will be done.
As they search
for clues, Gordon and Dorie must wrestle with their convictions about
war and peace and decide what to do with the shocking secrets they
discover.
I LOVED her first book and bought it for several people last year for Christmas, so I have high expectations for this one:
Have you read The Lines Between Us? What did you think?
I like the sound of this one! Thanks for sharing, and here's mine: “APPLES NEVER FALL”
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!!
DeleteI read Amy’s book last week! Super book!
ReplyDeleteMy first line is from a wonderful book by Joanna Politano: A Midnight Dance.
Covent Garden, London m 1833
He was so very BLUE. That was all my scattered mind could gather as he sailed past the window of Craven Street Theatre. Blue and sparkling under the glow of street lamps that shone down the alley.
I want to read Joanna Politano's book as well, I have not read anything by her, but hope to soonish...
DeleteThat opening would make me keep reading! :)
ReplyDeleteLark, it kept me reading later than I intended last night :)! I am enjoying it!
DeleteI did! And I loved it! I featured it on my First Line Friday post, too. :) This weekend I'm reading A View Most Glorious by Regina Scott. The first line is: "She was causing a stir."
ReplyDeleteI am going to read the first in Regina's series. I've not read any of them and I decided I should to see if I wanted to read A View Most Glorious, it does sound good though, I hope you enjoy it!

ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne, I am a third of the way into it and enjoying it. Have a great weekend and thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThis sounds very interesting. I like that it takes a different look at the war. And since I live next to a forest, I admire forest firefighters.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying it. I am half-way through and I can't help wondering how it will all end. Have a wonderful weekend!
DeleteI love that opener! I really want to read this one. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a great weekend! :)
