First Line Friday #34-Deadly Target

We made it to Friday!! It has been a really long week around here. Any plans for the weekend? I am planning to rest a lot this weekend, not feeling the greatest today. We are supposed to get some winter weather on Sunday (let it snow!!) so we probably won't be going to church. I also plan to do quite a bit of reading and blogging. Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!! I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link).  This week I am reading Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goddard. It is the second book in the Rocky Mountain Courage series.

Book Beginnings:

Puget Sound

For a few hours every Saturday morning, Erin Larson could forget that evil existed.

And usually, only on the water.

She dipped the double-bladed paddle into the sea, then again on the other side-left, right, left, right, left, right-alternating strokes in a fluid motion to propel her kayak across the blue depths. Her friend Carissa Edwards paddled close behind.

About the book (from Goodreads):

Criminal psychologist Erin Larson's dreams of a successful career come to a screeching halt when she nearly loses her own life in a boating accident on Puget Sound and then learns that her mother tried to commit suicide. She leaves her job as a criminal psychologist to care for her mother in Montana. At least she is able to produce her podcast, which focuses on solving missing persons cold cases.

Nathan Campbell's father was investigating such a case when he was shot, and now Nathan needs to enlist Erin's help to solve the case. She's good at what she does. The only problem? She's his ex.

As the two dig deeper, it becomes clear that they, too, are being targeted--and that the answers to their questions are buried deep within the past Erin struggles to explain and longs to forget.

The race is on for the truth in this gripping and complex tale of suspense, intrigue, and murder from USA Today bestselling author Elizabeth Goddard.

Your turn! Grab the current book you are reading and post the first line in the comments! Then, click on the icons below and join the fun there too! Thank you all for coming by each week, I REALLY appreciate the support and comments 😀

  1. Happy Friday!
I'm currently reading The Breakup Project by Carolyn Miller. I'll share from there:
"Somehow, the sight of Breanna Karlsson looking as stunned as Mike felt made the torture of coming here almost worthwhile."
Hope you have an excellent weekend!

  2. I'm looking forward to reading this series. I haven't started it yet though, but enjoyed her last series.

We are getting snow today as well, but that is par for the course this time of year. Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Gretchen! I read the first book last year and this one has been on my TBR list so I am happy to be able to get to it. We've not had a winter storm since 2018 so I do hope we get the snow, even a little bit, but not the ice. Have a great weekend!

  3. I hope you get the rest you need this weekend and are feeling better soon. Deadly Target sounds like a good read! Reading is to me what being on the water to Erin in that opening. I hope you have a great weekend!

  4. Loved Deadly Target and all the books that I have read by Beth!
My first line is from Twilight at Moorington Cross by Abigail Wilson

It was entirely possible that I spent more time lying on the floor of Cluett’s Mesmeric Hospital than standing upon it.
