My Review:
I am not a huge historical fiction fan but I really adore Karen Witemeyer's stories!
I enjoyed the story but did not care much for the narrator. She detracted from my overall enjoyment of the story.Crockett Archer had no idea that the day he headed off to interview as a preacher for a church he would be pulled off a train at gunpoint and hauled off as a birthday present for a rancher's daughter! I am sure when Joanna told her father she wanted a preacher for her birthday she wasn't expecting him to grant that wish. Making the most of the situation, Joanna doesn't hesitate to tell Crockett why she wanted a preacher for her birthday.
Stealing the Preacher has all the classic elements that I have come to expect from Witemeyer's writing: faith that is as natural as breathing, doses of humor, drama, a unique set of characters, engaging dialogue, and a wonderful story line. I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys historical fiction and clean romance stories.

Synopsis (from Goodreads):
A cowboy who wants to be a preacher... An outlaw's daughter who wants to change his mind...
On
his way to interview for a position at a church in the Piney Woods of
Texas, Crockett Archer can't believe it when he's forced off the train
by an outlaw and presented to the man's daughter as the preacher she
requested for her birthday. He's determined to escape—which would be
much easier if he could stop thinking about Joanna Robbins and her
unexpected request.
For months, Joanna had prayed for a minister.
A man to breathe life back into the abandoned church at the heart of
her community. A man to assist her in fulfilling a promise to her dying
mother. But just when it seems her prayers have been answered, it turns
out the parson is there against his will and has dreams of his own
calling him elsewhere. Is there any way she can convince Crockett he
ended up right where he was supposed to be?
With her signature
blend of humor, history, and lively western romance, two-time RITA Award
finalist and best-selling author Karen Witemeyer delivers a Texas love
story sure to steal your heart.
Love Karen Witemeyer and enjoyed this series!
ReplyDeleteSarita, I am planning to make my way through all her books :) The balance between humor/faith/and action is just wonderful!
DeleteShe writes some really fun stories, doesn't she? I enjoyed this one, too. :)
ReplyDeleteLark, she really does!
DeleteI like historical fiction once in a while, if there is a good story to go with it. This sounds really good! Too bad about the narrator.
ReplyDeleteWendy, the narrator could totally be me, others may find her good. It wasn't so bad I stopped (and I have with other books). Regardless I enjoyed the story!
