Lucy removed her glasses and watched Ellie's thin, thirteen-year-old fingers splay against the girl's too-flat stomach.
Book Beginnings:
Lucy removed her glasses and watched Ellie's thin, thirteen-year-old fingers splay against the girl's too-flat stomach.
"Try it," Lucy said.
"I don't have much breath."
"I know." The confession drilled so much deeper than it would have coming from any of Lucy's other students. "Please try."
About the book (from Goodreads):
Lucy and Charlie Tuttle
agree on one thing: they're committed to each other for life. Trouble
is, neither of them expected life to look like this. While Charlie
retired early, Lucy is devoted to a long-term career . . . until the day
she has no choice.
Forced to retire from her position as music
educator in a small Midwestern K-8 school, Lucy can only watch
helplessly as the program her father started years ago disintegrates
before her eyes. As the music fades and a chasm separates her from the
passion of her heart, Lucy wonders if her faith's song has gone silent,
too. The musical score of her life seems to be missing all the notes.
When
a simple misstep threatens to silence Lucy forever, a young boy and his
soundless mother change the way she sees--and hears--everything.

My first line is from Chapter 1 of To Treasure an Heiress by Roseanna White:
ReplyDelete11 July. Samson, Isles of Scilly
“Beth Tremayne crept silently through the creaking doorway of the abandoned cottage as the first stokes of dawn painted the sky over the islands.”
I am seeing a lot about this one, Paula. I hope you are enjoying it :)
DeleteThat must be so hard for Lucy! I hope you are enjoying Song of Silence. It sounds like an emotional one. I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteIt is more emotional than I thought it would be. It is good though...can't wait to see how it turns out. I hope you have a great weekend as well, thanks for stopping by, Wendy :)
DeleteMine is from Crosshairs by Patricia Bradley:
ReplyDelete"Come on! It's almost midnight, and the light in Cora Chamberlain's bedroom blazed like a neon sign." Really good so far! Song of Silence sounds awesome!
I can't wait to read Crosshairs!! I have read the others in the series and haven't been able to get it yet. I requested my library to get it and it is delayed...but soonish :) Have a great weekend!
DeleteSounds like a good read. I hope you like it. Have a great weekend!

DeleteMy first line is from Death at High Tide by Hannah Dennison - "I'm sorry, but I don't understand what you mean."
ReplyDeleteI read one of Cynthia Ruchti's books a few years ago and immediately wanted to read everything else she wrote. However, I haven't pick a single other one up yet! This one does sound emotional. I hope you enjoy it.
Gretchen, that is how I felt when I read her book Facing the Dawn last year. It was one of my favorites for 2021, it's a must read! I read one more of hers, a nonfiction that came out toward the end of last year, and now I am reading this one. I am slowly playing catch up!
DeleteI haven’t read any of Cynthia Ruchti’s books, but this one sounds intriguing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend 😊
ReplyDeleteOh Jen, you are missing out. I highly recommend starting with Facing the Dawn. I hope you have a great weekend!
DeleteHappy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI’m currently reading Mulberry Hollow by Denise Hunter. I am really enjoying it! I’m just starting chapter 7, so I’ll share from there.
“It was amazing how much could change over a weekend.”
Truer words! LOL!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with relaxing reading time.
I requested this one on Net Galley after seeing your post yesterday ;) Hoping I get it. If not, I will wait until my library gets it. Have a great weekend!
DeleteLooks like a good but emotional story!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Book Beginnings, #21
Kym, it is really good and has so much going on, can't wait to see how it all ends! Thanks for stopping by. Have a great weekend!
DeleteThis sounds really good, and I love that cover! Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley, you as well!
DeleteI know this is off topic but whenever I see a piano outside I freak. Who would wreck a piano by submitting it to the elements? My Friday Quotes are here
ReplyDeleteAnne, I know, right?! To my knowledge no pianos were harmed in the making of this cover ;)
DeleteThis sounds really emotional. My first line is "There's something especially lovely about an overcast day." from Weather Girl by Rachel Lynn Solomon
ReplyDeleteWendy, I look forward to hearing how the book is!
DeleteThis weekend, I'm reading Their Unbreakable Bond by Deb Kastner. The first line is: It was the Be Back Shortly sign on the door of the gift shop, with an arrow pointing toward the barn, that had sent Stone Keller in this direction.
ReplyDeleteOn my First Line Friday blog post, I featured To Treasure an Heiress by Rosenanna M. White: https://daniellegrandinetti.com/2022/01/21/to-treasure-an-heiress/
Happy Weekend!
I have not heard of Deb Kastner...will have to look into her. Have a great weekend, Danielle.
