Happy Friday, my bookish friends! Any plans for the weekend? My plan for this weekend is similar to last week, tomorrow I will rest from another very busy/emotional week. Sunday will be busy and I need energy for it. Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!! I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link). This week I am reading Edgewater Road by Shelley Shepard Gray. It is the first book in her new series The Rumors in Ross County.
"That's her, boss," Bo said under the cover of a large black umbrella. "That there is Jennifer Smiley."
Book Beginnings:
Prologue
"That's her, boss," Bo said under the cover of a large black umbrella. "That there is Jennifer Smiley."
If Bo had had uttered anything else, Lincoln probably would've asked him to repeat it. It was raining that hard. Storming, more like it. And, since they were currently standing in the middle of a graveyard net to Ginny Smiley's final resting place, Lincoln might have simply shrugged.
About the book (from Goodreads):
When Jennifer Smiley’s
grandmother, Ginny, leaves her an old farmhouse on Edgewater Road in
seemingly quiet Ross County, Ohio, Jennifer can’t pass up the
opportunity for a new beginning. Almost immediately she meets a group of
men who generously help her move in. When she realizes that they work
for Lincoln Bennett, her next-door neighbor, she’s intrigued. Lincoln is
gorgeous and has dark, lapis-blue eyes she could get lost in . . . but
he doesn’t seem all that friendly. She’s torn between getting to know
him and sticking with the solitude she knows so well. Maybe she could
let down some of those walls she’s built around her emotions?
Lincoln
Bennett likes to keep his head down and get his work done. He’s been to
prison and he knows that a lot of folks don’t take kindly to a man with
that kind of history. Plus, he’s busy helping other ex-cons get back on
their feet. But when he meets Jennifer, he can’t help but feel an
instant attraction. Will she be able to look past his unsavory history?
Will she be able to accept the men he’s working so hard to help?
While
Jennifer gets to know Lincoln and his friends, she also begins to
unravel her grandmother’s story, putting together the pieces from scraps
of memories and things she finds in her new home. She soon discovers
that Ginny Smiley harbored some dark secrets on Edgewater Road—and that
those secrets include both Lincoln and her own absent father. Is
learning the truth worth the heartache it could bring?
As the
weeks pass and she and Lincoln become closer, Jennifer learns there is a
lot to uncover in Ross County—wonderful friendships, darling towns …
and more than one secret that might be better left buried.
Your

Thank you all for coming by each week, I REALLY appreciate the support

Shelley’s looks good.
ReplyDeleteMy First line is from Enchanting the Heiress by Kristi Hunter:
December 1817. Newmarket, England
How could Jonas Fitzroy possibly follow his twin sister’s directive to stop watching over and protecting her, when she actually believed in the crazy plans she’d just laid out to him?
I have not read anything by Kristi Hunter but her stuff sounds good!

Thanks Wendy. More snow?! I would say lucky but that might not be your sentiment! It was 64 today and will be 73 tomorrow, no snow around here. Enjoy your weekend!
DeleteI'm currently halfway through To Disguise the Truth by Jen Turano. It's great!
ReplyDelete"Not that you're going to want to hear this, but after listening to your diatribe against Arthur for the past hour, complete with complaints about his character, his handsome face, and the way he makes you long to punch him, I'm left wondering if the contentious relationship both of you share is something entirely different than a clash of two strong personalities."
Have a wonderful weekend! 😀❤📚

ReplyDeleteJen, usually she writes Amish Christian fiction, but this one is more for a secular audience and is contemporary romance.
