First Line Friday #50-What Remains True

Happy Friday, my bookish friends! Any plans for the weekend? My son is graduating tomorrow!!! We homeschool so it will be a very small, very short ceremony (especially since he doesn't want one!!). We will be at my in-laws lake house celebrating with family. Sunday is mine and my husband's 23 wedding anniversary. We are not doing anything special, but will be relaxing 😀 in the afternoon.

Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!! I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link).  This week I am reading What Remains True by Nancy Naigle.

Merry Anna Foster loved spring for its promise of new beginnings, and this year she needed one desperately.

Book Beginnings:

Merry Anna Foster loved spring for its promise of new beginnings, and this year she needed one desperately. She inhaled the fresh mountain air. Where else, aside from Antler Creek, could you work in a store that had a screen door for taking advantage of beautiful days like this? It was just one more reason she loved living and working in this small town. It had turned out to be a good first step in her new beginning.

About the book (Goodreads):

An uplifting novel about three months that may change three lives--and lead to love--from USA Today bestselling author Nancy Naigle

Working at a little shop on Main Street in a small town is exactly the break that executive Merry Anna Foster needs following her divorce. She's made a bet with her ex-husband that she can live on the amount of money she's giving him in alimony. If she can do it, then Kevin will have to stop complaining and leave her alone. But after three months of this new life, will she even want to leave Antler Creek?

Adam Locklear, bull rider and owner of the local feedstore, is having the best year of his rodeo career. He's also a bit distracted by the pretty new neighbor living in his old bunkhouse. But Adam has no time for matters of the heart. He's got his future all mapped out, and that future doesn't involve a woman just yet. It doesn't involve parenting a little girl either. However, Carly Fowler still suddenly leaves five-year-old Zan--the daughter Adam didn't know he had--in his care.

Is it possible that the future holds a life even better than what Merry Anna and Adam had each dreamed of? One that includes both tenderness and even love--not just for each other but for Zan too.

Your turn! Grab the current book you are reading and post the first line in the comments! Then, click on the icons below and join the fun there too! Thank you all for coming by each week, I REALLY appreciate the support and comments 😀

  3. I do adore spring as well, especially for fresh starts, but I adore autumn the most for its gentle letting go of things. Congratulations to your son on his graduation and to you on your anniversary!! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend :)

  6. Congratulations and happy Anniversary! And congratulations to your son! My kids both graduated college during covid, so we didn't get to go to any ceremonies for them. It's the accomplishment that counts, not the ceremony. :)

    1. Wendy, my daughter graduated high school in 2020 and it ended up only being immediate family, and her grandparents on my husband's side, and an aunt, very small. It was a bit disappointing not being able to have a huge party, but we had fun regardless and some friends came up with creative ways to honor the occasion.

  9. Congratulations and I hope you're enjoying the weekend!

I just started At Love's Bidding by Regina Jennings and the first line is: "Behind the massive marble building where even in May the crisp sea air never chased away the odors ground unto the cobblestone, the newsboys and shoe-shinners gathered, waiting in her."
