My review:

Forgotten Memories is the first book I have read by Penny Zeller, but it won't be my last. I loved hearing about the Wyoming territory.

Forgotten Memories is a sweet, quick read. Annie is a likable character, and I enjoyed seeing how she and Caleb met when they were younger. It is not an encounter either of them will ever forget.

Caleb is in a difficult situation when the story opens. I appreciated his character growth, he ends up being an admiral character. I enjoyed his family and the story there.

My favorite part of the whole book was Charlotte and John Mark's sibling relationship. I loved their banter and extensive vocabulary. They added humor to the story.

There were a few things that bothered me. First, I felt like I was reading a story. Everything was explained to me, but I couldn't experience it. It needed to be explained less and felt more. Second, the dialogue was stilted at times. It was too wordy to be natural. The other thing I didn't enjoy was the gaps in the story. For example, it's a very slow-build romance, and later we are told something happened instead of seeing it play out. The story would have been enhanced by adding that scene.

Overall, I enjoyed this story of redemption, second chances, and forgiveness. I would recommend it to historical fiction fans who favor westerns.

Thank you to Penny Zeller for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Blurb:

Some memories are best forgotten…

The Wyoming Territory is rife with lawlessness and disorder, something Annie Ledbetter and her parents discover when their wagon train is robbed. Seven years later, Annie settles into her lifelong dream as a teacher in the small town of Willow Falls. When she meets handsome rancher Caleb Eliason through a humorous misunderstanding, she is quickly drawn to his kind heart and charming smile.

Former outlaw Caleb Eliason embraces his chance at a fresh start. Gone are the days of robbing stagecoaches and wagon trains. When he falls in love with the new Willow Falls teacher, he doesn’t realize they’ve met before—under much different circumstances. When his past comes to light, will it put the growing love between them at risk?

Can forgiveness and redemption heal two broken hearts or will the past keep them from sharing a future?
