My review:
Coming Home is a second-chance romance by Shelley Shepard Gray. It is the first in her newest series, Woodland Park Firefighters.
After Anderson broke Chelsea's heart, she never expected to see him again. When he moved back to their small town she avoided him at all costs. Until she couldn't.
Anderson has changed from the self-centered young man he used to be. He is determined to be a different person, yet he is still holding deep hurts.
I enjoyed Coming Home. From the small-town charm to the camaraderie between the firefighters and the storyline. I appreciated the side romance between an older couple; however, I did not love the drama that came with it. It was too much for me. I had a few smaller issues, that are MY issues (like an eight-year-old having a cell phone) that annoyed me and contributed to the lower rating.
I am used to Shelley writing Christian fiction, so I was taken aback when minor curse words appeared in the story. There are not many, but it still annoyed me as I attempt to avoid ALL cursing.
Thank you to Shelley Shepard Gray for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
★★★/5
Synopsis (Goodreads):
When an army vet becomes a firefighter in
small-town Colorado, the flames of an old love reignite in this sweet
romance by bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray
In
Woodland Park, a small town nestled in the foothills of Pikes Peak,
Anderson Kelly and Chelsea Davis were once the high school "it"
couple--the star quarterback and the valedictorian. They broke up when
Anderson joined the army and one poor decision at a fraternity party
changed Chelsea's life. Now, she works long shifts in a senior center to
support her nine-year-old son, Jack.
After multiple tours in
Afghanistan, Anderson has changed, too--physically scarred but mentally
strong--and he decides to move back to Woodland Park. Anderson and
Chelsea steer clear of each other to avoid reopening old wounds, until
they are forced to reconnect through the senior center. They soon
discover that the love they once shared never completely vanished. But
it will take a fire, a dangerous collision, and the love of one little
boy to help Anderson and Chelsea see that the future they've always
yearned for is in sight...
Great review, Cindy! That's a bummer about the cursing. I've been seeing that more and more lately which is kinda baffling to me. I don't understand the need for it.
ReplyDeleteAshley, I don't either, even the mild ones. I just think it's annoying.
DeleteI do want to read this one...both for the setting and the characters. ;D
ReplyDeleteLark, absolutely, I think you will enjoy it!
