Can't Wait Wednesday-Dark of Night

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Typically they are books that have not been released yet. This week I am sharing Dark of Night by Colleen Coble. It released yesterday January 10, 2023.  Since I am not likely to get a copy of it anytime soon I can still be excited about it 😂 Plus, I haven't read the first in the series, so I need to catch up. And, since I just looked and the third book comes out in July, I might just binge them all toward the end of the year, LOL!

Synopsis (Goodreads):

The law is about justice—not grace. But perhaps ranger Annie Pederson can find a way to have both.

As if the last few months haven’t been hard enough—complete with threats on her life and the return of her first love, Jon—Annie has to figure out whether or not to believe a woman who claims to be her sister, Sarah, who was abducted twenty-four years ago at age five. Annie’s eight-year-old daughter, Kylie, has plenty of questions about what’s going on in her mother’s life—but there are some stories Annie doesn’t want uncovered.

As Annie grapples with how to heal the gulf between her and her would-be sister and make room in her daughter’s life for Jon, she’s professionally distracted by the case of yet another missing hiker in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. A woman named Michelle Fraser has now been abducted, and though the woman’s estranged husband is at the top of their suspect list, Annie and her colleagues will need to dig deeper to determine whether these recent mysteries are truly as unrelated as they seem.

In this second novel of bestselling author Colleen Coble’s latest romantic-suspense series, Annie and Jon must fight for the future—and the family—that could once more be theirs.

  3. I love Colleen Coble, but when I heard this series was kind of an off-shoot of another one of her series I hadn't read, I wasn't sure if I should start it or read the other one first.

    2. I looked into it a little more and it is the Rock Harbor series. From what I can gather there are some characters from that series that make an appearance in the Annie Pederson series, which also takes place in Rock Harbor, but you don't need to have read the other series first. I tend to not want to miss anything, so was thinking about reading the Rock Harbor series first. But it is 6 books long, so I think I have decided to read the Annie Pederson series and then see if I want to go back and read Rock Harbor.

  5. I take issue with the first line of the publisher's summary. I am a paralegal and everyone I know in the legal field states that we have a legal system, not a justice system. However, I am intrigued now by this statement and will probably get this book.
