My review:
Married 'til Monday is the final book in the Chapel Springs series. I was more than ready to get to Ryan's story since it is alluded to in the first three books. While this book could be read as a standalone novel, I recommend reading the series in order.
Married 'til Monday is a story of brokenness, redemption, healing, second chances, and more. While the story has the expected happily ever after, not all is perfect or even resolved. It is true to life, which is messy. I liked how Abby and Ryan can look back and see they both made mistakes in their marriage. Abby is an unlikable character, especially at the beginning, but she has tremendous growth.
Trigger warning: mentions of physical abuse/there is verbal abuse. It is handled well and not overly detailed.
★★★★/5
Synopsis (Goodreads):
With a big anniversary party in the works for
his ex-wife’s parents, Ryan has just one weekend to play Abby’s husband
. . . and win back the woman of his dreams.
Ryan McKinley
has tried to move on from his ex-wife, Abby. He’s sulked, he’s gotten
angry, and ultimately he bought her dream house. Big mistake. Living
alone in the massive two-story has only made him miss her more. When her
parents call him out of the blue about their anniversary party in
Summer Harbor, Maine, Ryan believes God has dropped a golden opportunity
straight in his lap.
Abby McKinley never exactly told her
parents about the divorce. A strained relationship with her dad has
culminated in a distant relationship with her parents, but she’s finally
succumbed to her mom’s pressure to make the drive for their
35th-anniversary party.
Then Ryan shows up on her doorstep,
looking as handsome as ever. When he insists he’s going to Summer
Harbor, with or without her, Abby knows she can’t say no. Her parents
still think they’re married and now Ryan knows it too. It’s just a
one-week road trip with the man who broke her heart. What could possibly
go wrong?
Oh I love a good romance series! This sounds fabulous.
ReplyDeleteJoanne, it was a great series! I read the first book and listened to the last three on audio, I found it enjoyable either way :)
DeleteShe didn't tell her parents about her divorce? How old is she? ;D
ReplyDeleteLark, old enough to know better but did it anyway, LOL! mid-twenties I believe.
DeleteI love when a character can go from being very unlikeable to someone you respect because of the growth they went through. This sounds like a great series!
ReplyDeleteGretchen, I really enjoyed it!
DeleteGood to know this one works well as a standalone.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lucy!
DeleteIf I remember right, this is one I really did enjoy. But then I tend to like the married/former marrieds trope. I think it opens new doors for the romance/story. :)
ReplyDeleteRissi, it is a troupe I haven't found a lot of.
