My Review:
A Defense of Honor is the first book in Kristi Ann Hunter's Haven Manor series.
Anytime there is a story with orphans, foster kids, unwanted children, or the like, that book has my heart. Well, A Defense of Honor has illegitimate children. While the children's beginnings may not be ideal, Kit, Daphne, and Jess strive to give them love and proper care.
A chance encounter in a ballroom provides a humorous meet cute for Kit and Lord Graham. As the story unfolds, Graham learns much about himself and seeks to find his purpose.
Kit believes that she has found her purpose and the means to care for the children in her care. However, when challenged with the methods she uses, she finds herself questioning what is right and wrong.
A Defense of Honor has a great cast of characters, from the ladies caring for the children to the children themselves, each chapter made the characters more endearing. Kit and Graham grow as characters and it was fun to see them come into themselves. I am thrilled that Daphne and Jess's books have already been written so I don't have to wait to see what happens next.
My husband listened to this story with me and enjoyed it as well. He said that Hunter's writing is like Jane Austen's only easier to understand. If you enjoy historical fiction with witty banter, character growth, and a touch of romance, I highly A Defense of Honor.
★★★★/5
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Forced to run for her life, Kit FitzGilbert finds herself in the very place she swore never to return to--a London ballroom. There she encounters Lord Graham Wharton, who believes Kit holds the key to a mystery he's trying to solve. As much as she wishes that she could tell him everything, she can't reveal the truth without endangering those she loves.
This book sounds unique. I have not heard of the author before either. The banter type of book is always a fun read. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteShellie, her books are fun! Historical fiction with lots of banter :)
DeleteI read something by Kristi, but cannot remember if it was this one or another title by her. This cover art is so familiar though so it may have been this one. Either way, reading your reviews always reminds me of the once-upon-a-time books I read. ;)
ReplyDeleteRissi, LOL, yes, I am playing catch up with some authors.
