Come Back to Me

Title: Come Back to Me

Series: Water of Time #1

Author: Jody Hedlund

Publisher: Revell

Genre: Science Fiction, time travel, romance, young adult, dual-timeline

My review:

This is a very different read for me as I NEVER read Science Fiction. However, I heard a TON of great things about it so I decided to check it out of the library to see what all the fuss is about and I am so glad I did. I did not expect to like it, nor did I anticipate having a hard time putting it down! This is also the first book I have read by Jody Hedlund, although I hear her historical romances are great too.

Other than hearing so many great things about Come Back to Me the beautiful cover also got my attention. The thing that finally cinched the deal was the first line, "Your father is in a coma."

Marian gets the call and immediately grabs a plane to be with her father. This starts an incredible, life-changing journey for her. Marian never believed that her father had crossed time, until she did it herself. She embarks on a journey to find more holy water in the hopes of saving her father.

Along the journey Marian meets a swoon-worthy knight, William Durham. She is immediately captivated by him, and he by her. Marian's impulsiveness and her stubborn will soon find her in circumstances that she can't get out of. Will she marry the knight in a manner of convenience? Will she stay in the past or make it back to the present? Will she find the holy water?

The writing is captivating and this story has it all: romance, suspense, strong characters, a well-developed and fast-paced storyline, seamless dual-timeline, and a great balance between dialogue and narration. The love in this story is romantic and authentic. You are not just reading it, you are experiencing it. There was so much to love and enjoy about this book. For someone who does not enjoy Science Fiction, that is saying a lot.

"...there was something special about needing others and being needed in return. She'd learned it took courage to open her heart and allow people in."

I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves science fiction, historical fiction, clean romance, and pretty much anyone who loves a great story, even if this is not your typical genres.

I loved this book and absolutely can't wait until the second book comes out! I went digging on her webpage to see when it comes out and we still have 6 months to wait!! But...I did find the title and cover so that it can be added to our TBR lists 😀

★★★★★/5

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

The ultimate cure that could heal any disease? Crazy.

That's exactly what research scientist Marian Creighton has always believed about her father's quest, even if it does stem from a desire to save her sister Ellen from the genetic disease that stole their mother from them. But when her father falls into a coma after drinking a vial of holy water believed to contain traces of residue from the Tree of Life, Marian must question all of her assumptions. He's left behind tantalizing clues that suggest he's crossed back in time. Insane. Until Marian tests his theories and finds herself in the Middle Ages during a dangerous peasant uprising.

William Durham, a valiant knight comes to Marian's rescue and offers her protection . . . as his wife. The longer Marian stays in the past, the more she cares about William. Can she ever find her father and make it back to the present to heal her sister? And when the time comes to leave, will she want to?

Bestselling author Jody Hedlund is your guide down the twisting waters of time to a volatile era of superstition, revolts, and chivalry in this suspenseful story.
