 MY REVIEW:

I always enjoy visiting Deep Haven. I appreciate the obvious affection the community members have with each other and checking up on the people we have met in previous books. Each book can be read as a standalone, but you would have a greater appreciation for all the characters by reading the series in order.

Sometimes God gives us safe spaces to retreat to so we can come back healed.

Colleen Decker is working in the HCMC ER and after a traumatic event her boss orders her to take some time off. Colleen is strong, smart, brave, and full of life. She is spunky, learns things quickly and easily, and keeps her head in intense situations...which she often finds herself in

Her life was changing so fast a girl could be forgiven for having a little whiplash.

We meet Win (aka Jack) as he is released from prison. We are not given all the details of his incarceration, but enough to hear and see his regret. He has no desire to make friendships or connections of any sort, so when Boone suggests a small town for him to hide out, he is all for it.

Sometimes we feel restless because we haven't discovered what it is that God wants for us. We keep searching for things to fulfill the longing He has put in our heart, but we miss that the longing is for something He has called us to do.

Overall, I enjoyed this story. There are tender moments, intense moments, and moments that dragged. While this is a lighter read, it also had moments of heaviness and deep nuggets of truth. The characters needed a bit more depth, but the friendship to more was spot on. Not rushed. There are a few things that leave you hanging and ready for the sixth book in the series. However, the thread of redemption and the promise of second chances will keep you hooked.

This book is great for anyone who is looking for a sweet story to get them ready for fall. What better way than a visit to Deep Haven? If you enjoyed the other stories in the series, you will enjoy this one as well.

Thank you to JustReads and the authors for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK

He just wants to erase his past. She can’t seem to escape hers. But facing it might put their future in jeopardy.

The day Jack Stewart walked out of jail, he vowed to keep his conviction a secret. The whole thing was just a terrible mistake, and he did his time. Now he wants a new life in a sleepy town where no one knows his name. Deep Haven is the perfect place to start over as a chef. The last thing the former pararescue jumper wants is to get involved. But when Boone Buckam—the guy he owes for getting him out of the slammer—asks for help, how can he refuse?

Colleen Decker has already escaped evil once—as a teenager, she was kidnapped by a murderer. But she’s put all that behind her as a trauma nurse in Minneapolis. Or maybe not, because a freak mistake in the ER sends her past crashing down on her. She needs a timeout in her hometown of Deep Haven. She doesn’t plan to stay—even when she’s roped into the job of flight nurse for the town’s Crisis Response Team chopper. Colleen’s not sure why she’s drawn to danger, but she’ll be safe enough—after all, she’ll need training, and her teacher is a handsome former pararescue jumper. What could go wrong?

When Jack said he didn’t want to get involved, he especially meant his heart—but being with Colleen feels like a fresh start. He’ll even climb aboard a chopper again, despite his vows.  They’re headed for a happy ending…

But secrets never stay buried in a small town. And when disaster strikes one snowy night, they’ll both have to decide if the past will destroy them…or if it just might lead them home.

Cozy up to this perfect Deep Haven drama about discovering a season of second chances.
