Letting God be Enough

 Title: Letting God Be Enough

Author: Erica Wiggenhorn

Publisher: Moody Publishers

Genre: Christian Nonfiction, Self-help

Source: Moody

My Review:

Erica Wiggenhorn is the founder of Every Life Ministries. The purpose of this ministry is designed to help you discover your purpose and embrace God's promises.  Letting God be Enough is the first book I have read by her.

God is enough to fill in our gaps.

Letting God be Enough is about why striving will keep us stuck and how surrender can set us free. One of the questions we all tend to wrestle with is "Am I enough?" This book is told from a conversational, first-person point of view. You feel like you are sitting down and chatting with a friend, as she weaves Moses' story throughout the book, as well as relating his story in a way that makes it applicable to us today.

What if we could cease striving and surrender our endless cycles of frenetic performance?

While I would say this is an easy read, I would also call it a challenging read. At the end of each chapter, the author has a section for you to pause and think about what has been revealed in the chapter. This is followed by a Bible reading plan that goes along with the chapter and challenging us to take a deeper look at Moses' story. She also includes a section that recaps the major highlights from the chapter, questions to get you thinking further, and then closes with a prayer.

Only God can rewrite the reverberating fears of the past into songs of security in the future.

There are sixteen chapters in this book. The author invites us to look at our identity, deal with our fears, look at our distractions, and so much more. While I think this book is mostly geared toward women, I think it could be helpful for teens and adults alike. At one point during the reading of this book I took it to church and shared a passage with the teens that I teach, it went along perfectly with what they were learning about our identity in Christ.

Thank you to Moody Publishers for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Synopsis

Everyone thinks you’ve got it together. But inside, you’re asking, “Am I enough?”

No matter how good we look to others, the nagging voice of self-doubt is hard to shake. We ask questions like:

If people really knew me would they still accept me?
Will I be rejected when I can’t perform?
Can I pull this off?
What if I end up alone?
Am I missing out on what life should be because I can’t shake this fear?
If you find yourself having thoughts like these, Erica Wiggenhorn wants to lead you to freedom. Drawing from the story of Moses—the greatest self-doubter in the Bible—Erica shows how self-doubt is tied closely to self-reliance. It’s only when you cast yourself on God that you find the true source of strength.

Are you enough? The answer is no . . . but your God certainly is. Step out in His power instead of your own and watch your confidence blossom because you’re in the hands of I AM.
