Top Ten Tuesday-Thanksgiving edition

Happy Tuesday, friends! Today's theme is ten book characters I'd love to catch up on. I am not feeling it so will be going a different direction. Can you all believe that it is Thanksgiving week and Christmas is around the corner? I can't. This season seems to be moving so fast. I decided today that I will be part bookish/part get to know me for this prompt. To find out what our other bookish friends are doing for Top Ten Tuesday check out That Artsy Reader Girl

Top Ten Things I hope to do/read over Thanksgiving weekend:

We are planning to put up our Christmas tree on Thanksgiving, it's our tradition. When our kids were younger we always had them put the ornaments on the tree while we cooked the meal 😀 When do you put yours up?

My daughter comes home for the break tonight and we plan to hang out, play games, and watch movies. We will have her for 4 glorious days before she heads back to college to finish up her semester and do her final exams.

I am hosting Thanksgiving dinner, my husband's family will be here. If you celebrate Thanksgiving, what are your plans?

Eat Turkey 😁 Are you a ham or turkey person?

  2. I hope you have a lovely Thanksgiving. That's a great tradition putting up the tree when you are all gathered. We have become more lax since all the kids are grown, but we do let Thanksgiving have it's day before Christmas comes out

    1. When my kids were young we lived overseas and didn't have family near, so we started that tradition then to give them something fun to do while we cooked the meal. My kids are growing up, not sure how many more years it will be all of us, so cherishing the moments!

  3. Danielle Grandinetti is on TTT sometimes. She's got a great blog, so I'm sure her novel will be fantastic. I'll have to read it at some point.

My husband's aunt always cooks Thanksgiving dinner for us since she's very particular about how everything is done. That's just fine with me! My yearly assignment is to do a Costco run for pies and sundries. I survived the experience this year, so I'm ready for the holiday. I'm not a big turkey fan, but that's what we always have. I'd rather have ham, but I can make that any time, so...

    Happy TTT and Happy Thanksgiving!

  5. Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a fabulous weekend. I like to put the tree up Dec 1, but last year it went up the day after Thanksgiving, so who knows!?

    1. Kami, I understand, we have to do it when we have time! I like it to be up about 5-6 weeks and then I am done and need things back in order. Happy Thanksgiving.

  6. Happy Thanksgiving! I grew up in a turkey for Thanksgiving and ham for Christmas household. As for decorating, this weekend after the holiday.

  8. Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving - us Brits may feel a little conflicted about both Thanksgiving and Independence Day really!
For me, at Christmas at least, we go for beef - we eat so much poultry during the year that a turkey always seems a little familiar!
This is my TTT this week: books with particularly open and inviting endings which invite you to wonder where they are now.

    1. We tend to only have Turkey around the holidays, so it's more of a treat. My husband's family always had take out or pizza growing up, they were not very traditional, but I love the traditions and having something to pass on to my kids.

  9. Oh, wow. Putting up the tree on Thanksgiving is way to early for us. The German tradition is Christmas Eve, we usually try to have it up a day or two earlier.

As Thanksgiving as such isn't a German tradition, either (we celebrate it in October in church), most people don't have any. But since we lived among Americans for ages, we've been hosting a dinner and invited our German friends for about fifteen years now. Since we moved to be closer to my family, it's more family than friends but we still have around twenty guests. And it's definitely turkey for us. It's hard enough to find a large enough turkey (15 pounds is about the largest), but you don't get the kind of ham you have in the States. We usually add pulled pork. That's our tradition. LOL

I really enjoyed this post. Thanks, Cindy.

Thanks for visiting my TTT which is a top twenty this week.

    1. Hi Marianne, I LOVE the Christmas lights on the tree and for so much work I like to have it up 5-6 weeks and then I am done. We lived in foreign countries when our kiddos were little (Kenya, Singapore, and Athens, Greece) so the holidays were so different then, that we wanted to make a tradition for them. We visited Germany when our friends lived there and visited the Pig Museum in Stuttgart, the Christmas market, and Ritter Sport Chocolate Factory...I do know how hard it is to get a big turkey! It is much easier to get everything here in the US. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy your holidays!

    2. Thanks, Cindy. I know your feeling. We just leave the tree on for longer into January. When I was little it was up to Candlemas, 2 February, so the time is about the same. LOL

I always love meeting other people who lived abroad like us (well, we didn't live in such exotic places, only other European countries). So, happy expat greetings from me to you.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours. 🦃

  12. Oh, such a lovely tradition to decorate the tree on Thanksgiving! I typically decorate the weekend after, but we have a new kitten and he's making things difficult. Ha! I hope you enjoyed your holiday and time with the family! <3

    1. Debra, it was a wonderful weekend! I can only imagine how difficult a kitten would make decorating a tree. I can also see the fun you will have keeping him out of the tree, LOL!
