My review:

To Disguise the Truth is the third book in the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency series. It can be read and enjoyed as a stand-alone novel, but I highly recommend reading the first two books in the series.

The ladies at the Inquiry Agency are in all three books, and you will miss out on their backstory by starting with this one.

Considering she'd once shot the man sitting across from her, Eunice Holbrooke was beginning to get the sneaking suspicion her past had finally caught up with her.

From the first line, I was hooked. I had been looking forward to reading Eunice's story, and I was not disappointed. This book is full of secrets, humor, longing, and an underlying message of finding the truth, and the truth will set you free.

It was rather astonishing how much one could apparently glean from reading a vast assortment of romance novels.

There is several romance lines thread throughout this story. They are very tender, sweet, and slow burning, as is typical of all Turano novels. I loved Eunice's character, and Arthur was the perfect match for her. They get into some pretty wild situations, and their banter is awesome. My only complaint about the book is that it got a little slow toward the end. It seemed like it could have been wrapped up quicker. I did love the ending and the prologue. There was just a slow section at what seemed to be the end but wasn't for almost another hundred pages.

Overall, this is a great series and I highly recommend it.

Thank you to Bethany House for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are entirely my own.

★★★★/5

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

When a man arrives at the Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency, anxious to hire them to find a missing heiress, Eunice Holbrooke realizes her past has finally caught up with her . . . and that she may no longer be able to hide under the disguise that has kept her safe for so long.

Arthur Livingston's goal in life is to make his mark on the world as a mining industrialist, but after the man who could help him achieve his goal is murdered, Arthur feels compelled to seek justice for the family—but he's left with more questions than answers after the eccentric Bleecker Street Inquiry Agency refuses to take on his case.

Desperate to conceal her real identity and avoid the irritatingly handsome Arthur, Eunice takes on a different case that requires her to go deep undercover and entangles her in one troublesome situation after another. When other secrets come to light, Eunice has no choice but to confront her past, hopeful that it will set her free but knowing it could very well place her life—and the lives of those she loves—in jeopardy.

  2. Nice tip to read these in order. That expression on the face of the woman on the cover is so mysterious.
