Happy Friday, my bookish friends! Any plans for the weekend? Tomorrow is my son's last Bible Quizzing event ever so I am going to that, which will take most of the day Sunday is Church in the morning and teaching youth in the evening. Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!! I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link). This week I am reading Knox by Susan May Warren. This is the first book in The Montana Marshalls series.
Book Beginnings:
Oh goody, now Knox got to watch his mechanical little brother break his ornery neck.
"Tate, this is a bad idea." Knox said it in his big-brother voice, but Tate hadn't a hope of hearing him over the cheers as he walked into the straw-added arena under the hanging lights of the beer tent toward the mechaniclal bull.
About the book (from Goodreads):
His voice threaded
through her, as if it might be made of rawhide, designed not to break,
to weather time and elements, as sturdy as the land he probably worked.
Because yes, he wore cowboy like a second skin, the no-nonsense aura of
hard work and get ’er done.
About KNOX:
He's not looking for trouble...
Montana
rancher Knox Marshall's danger years are behind him. A former
bull-rider, he now runs the Marshall family ranch, raising champion
bucking bulls for the National Professional Bullrider's Expo (NBR-X).
Wealth and success are his, but life is stable, expected, and…ordinary.
But he wants more from life...
But trouble is looking for her...
Kelsey
Jones just wants a safe life, a family, a home. Onstage, the beautiful
rising star of the Yankee Belles becomes the person she longs to be -
vivacious and confident - burying the brokenness she carries from a
violent assault. Becoming NBR-X’s next country act is key to outrunning
her past and achieving the success and security she craves.
When trouble finds them both...
Knox
and Kelsey's paths collide when an explosion at an NBR-X event traps
them in the rubble and leaves them reeling. Kelsey’s crippling
nightmares return, but for Knox, an obsession to find the bomber is
ignited.
What will it cost him to protect her?
When
Kelsey’s past threatens Knox’s family, he'll have to choose between
saving the Marshall legacy or becoming the protector he's always longed
to be.
The explosive first book in the Montana Marshall series!

Well, they certainly picked a handsome fellow to represent Knox. And happily he kept his shirt on.
ReplyDeleteDeb, right? I will NOT read books with their shirts off, no thank you.
DeleteCindy, I'm with you! I can appreciate a handsome man, but I'm not picking up a book if he's half naked.
DeleteGood opening, I think. Some action and potential danger and conflict just around the corner. Happy reading! My post is up as well.
ReplyDeleteLyn, there is some action, but I am also finding it a little slow.
DeleteOh, I love me some Susan May Warren! Have you read Sunrise? So good. I'll have to grab this one.
ReplyDeleteI did read Sunrise :) I like her books as well.
DeleteI hope Tate is able to hang on to the mechanical bull! I do like stories with brothers in them. Knox sounds like a caring older brother.
ReplyDeleteWendy, Tate's story is next...there are 5 siblings and they all have their own book.
DeleteI LOVED this book. I hope you enjoy it too! Have a great weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Ashley.
DeleteOhhhh...this sounds good and I like the excerpts. Nice cover too!
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne.
DeleteSounds like a spicy romance!
ReplyDeleteHarvee, there really wasn't any spice.
DeleteI haven't read a western romance in years. Enjoy! My Friday quotes
ReplyDeleteAnne, I tend not to gravitate toward them but I am trying to read books I own.
DeleteWhat a great opening line! This is another book I want to read. :)
ReplyDeleteLark, I hope you enjoy it when you get a chance to read it :)
DeleteThis first sentence is very puzzling. I hope it's a good one for you.
