Elysium Tide

Title: Elysium Tide

Author: James R. Hannibal

Genre: Thriller, Suspense, Contemporary Fiction

Publisher: Revell

Source:  Revell

My review:

I wouldn't exactly call the first lines gripping as Elysium Tide starts in the middle of a surgery, but I was fascinated (even though I am squeamish). I found Elysium Tide fast-paced, unpredictable, and hard to put down.

I liked Peter right away. While he was rude in surgery, I have a wicked sense of humor, so I was amused when he called his coworkers accomplices.  I also thought it wass funny he is forced to vacation in Maui and lands himself in the middle of an intense investigation.

It took me quite a while to warm up to Lisa. She comes across as she thinks she is better than everyone else. She gets on my nerves quite a bit because she is most concerned with what she thinks than actually listening to what someone is trying to tell her.

There was no romance in this book which was surprisingly refreshing. While I do enjoy a bit of romance with my suspense, it's not a necessary ingredient to still have a great book. Hannibal proves this point with Elysium Tide. Lisa and Peter have good work chemistry and seem to be developing a solid friendship. The story ends with what could be a set-up for another book (and I hope there will be another one!!).

Thank you to Revell and the author for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

★★★★★/5

Synopsis (from Goodreads):

"When the Royal London Hospital orders a top neurosurgeon and workaholic to take a week off in Maui, he stumbles upon a murder and becomes obsessed with finding the killer. His efforts confound and irritate local detective Lisa Kealoha, but once they join forces, they uncover a destructive plot that runs far deeper than either of them could have imagined."

  1. Ooh a murder in Maui! That sounds fun. Well, in a book anyway. And nice that they have a professional relationship and it works without needing a romance. Sounds good!!!
