Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!! It has been several weeks since I have been able to participate, so I am excited to jump back in this week. I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link). This week I am reading Love's New Beginnings by Penny Zellar. It is the prequel to Forgotten Memories. It is set to release December 13, 2022.
Book Beginnings:
Lydie Beauchamp stalked down the dusty streets of Prune Creek, her skirt swishing against her ankles.
Usually she was a calm and mild-mannered young woman.
Usually.
But not today.
Synopsis (Goodreads):
Where it all began…
Lydie Beauchamp
recently moved with her aunts—sisters Myrtle and Fern—to the untamed
Wyoming Territory. When a teaching position in nearby Willow Falls
captures her attention, can she leave her aunts, one of whom just
suffered a broken heart, and embark on this new adventure? Will she find
the courage to persevere in the midst of challenges, one being a
handsome challenge named Solomon Eliason?
Reverend Solomon
Eliason has the goal of making a difference. Hired as the pastor of
Willow Falls, he must convince the congregation that he is able to
undertake the role of a reverend. When he’s nominated to be the adult in
charge of the annual prank tradition at the school, he embraces the
idea, thinking the new teacher will be an elderly crotchety woman like
his former teacher. What he doesn’t realize until it’s too late is that
the teacher is far from crotchety and elderly.
When Lydie's and
Solomon’s paths cross in an unexpected way during the prank tradition at
the Willow Falls school, can Solomon redeem himself in the eyes of the
lovely new teacher?
Take a glimpse into where it all began with
Lydie and Solomon's story in this tender tale that reminds us that God
can and does use willing hearts for His purposes.

ReplyDeleteThanks Susan!
DeleteThat's a beginning that would keep me reading. :D
ReplyDeleteLark, I agree, you want to know what happened!
DeleteHi Cindy! Happy Friday!
ReplyDeleteI'm just starting Christmas Baggage by Deborah M. Hathaway.
"Work was hectic, as usual, but adding the Christmas party on top of that made [Claire] run back and forth like a chicken with its head cut off."
I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks Nicole! I hope you enjoy it. I have read a different Christmas Baggage, LOL!
DeleteOh dear. A prank tradition could be a problem.
ReplyDeleteYes, certainly starts that way!
DeleteMy first line is from book three in the Waters of Time series by Jody Hedlund.
ReplyDeleteStay With Me
Someone or something was watching her.
Yay, Paula, I hope you enjoy it! I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it!
DeleteI love to read stories set in the Old West. Sounds fun. A school prank? Do tell.
ReplyDeleteAnne, yes, stories set in the Old West are fun!!
DeleteGreat first line - and a book set in the old west; very unusual timeline and so nice to NOT be WWII! Happy Reading

Terrie, yes, I am taking a break from WW1 & WW2 reads. I got burned out.
DeleteMe too and I like historical fiction, but there are SO many other eras and stories - I'll be seeking out more of them for next year.
DeleteI love historicals set in the old west. I can imagine that the Wyoming territory was a tough place to live back then.
ReplyDeleteWendy, yes, I'm sure it was!! I love my modern life ;)
DeleteSounds good. Pretty cover, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne.
DeleteThe West is such a great setting for historical fiction. We travel a great deal in the west (my husband is a rock collector) and I'm always on the lookout for books set there, so thank you, Cindy.
ReplyDeleteDeb, it is a good setting, I agree! I would LOVE to see more of the west!
DeleteLove those first lines. I'm with you Lydia!
ReplyDeleteKami, LOL!
DeleteWhat a great beginning! I definitely want to keep reading. Thanks for sharing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, Ashley, you as well :)
DeleteI love the cover of this one! I'm currently reading Five & Dime Christmas, a novella collection set in 1881. The first line from the first story, "A Merry Little Christmas" by Susanne Dietze, is: "One false move, and Hattie Scott would surely ruin Christmas." ~ Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI have not heard of that one, Danielle, thanks for sharing!
DeleteI like the beginning! Makes it sound like a Karen Witemeyer or Jen Turano type of story.
ReplyDeleteSarita, I can see the comparison, except I would say this one is a bit more descriptive driven than those are!
DeleteLove that first line! This sounds like a fun one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!
