First Line Friday #73-Coming Home

Merry Christmas Eve, Eve! We woke up to a winter wonderland this morning, in Ohio. Baby it's cold outside!!! Currently -1, feels like -26!!! How's the weather where you are?! Welcome back to First Line Friday hosted by Carrie at Reading is My SuperPower!!  I am also linking up with Gilion on Rose City Reader for Book Beginnings. This is where you share the beginning of the book that you are reading. To join in the fun grab the book you are reading and leave a comment with the first line (or your link). This week I am reading Coming Home by Shelley Shepard Gray.

"Ma'am? Can you hear me, ma'am?" Anderson was standing off to the side as his coworkers worked to secure the vehicle with rescue struts-the adjustable tools used to steady wrecks.

Book Beginnings:

"Ma'am? Can you hear me, ma'am?" Anderson was standing off to the side as his coworkers worked to secure the vehicle with rescue struts-the adjustable tools used to steady wrecks.

"Her eyes were opened a second ago, Anderson," one of them muttered as he pulled out the combi-tool. The hydraulic power tool was a work of art. It could both cut and spread an opening with relative ease.

It was going to be a lifesaver for the middle-aged woman trapped inside. Her Honda Accord had slid onto an embankment off Ute Pass in the storm that had just passed. The vehicle was now gently rocking like it was trying to decide whether to linger on the road or give in to temptation and careen off the cliff.

Synopsis (Goodreads):

When an army vet becomes a firefighter in small-town Colorado, the flames of an old love reignite in this sweet romance by bestselling author Shelley Shepard Gray

In Woodland Park, a small town nestled in the foothills of Pikes Peak, Anderson Kelly and Chelsea Davis were once the high school "it" couple--the star quarterback and the valedictorian. They broke up when Anderson joined the army and one poor decision at a fraternity party changed Chelsea's life. Now, she works long shifts in a senior center to support her nine-year-old son, Jack.

After multiple tours in Afghanistan, Anderson has changed, too--physically scarred but mentally strong--and he decides to move back to Woodland Park. Anderson and Chelsea steer clear of each other to avoid reopening old wounds, until they are forced to reconnect through the senior center. They soon discover that the love they once shared never completely vanished. But it will take a fire, a dangerous collision, and the love of one little boy to help Anderson and Chelsea see that the future they've always yearned for is in sight...

  4. We have very cold weather in Wisconsin, too. It is -2 right now. We are supposed to reach 0, but I don't think that's going to happen. We also have ground blizzard warnings. We don't have those often, but we just got several inches of very light snow and now it is very windy which causes blizzard like conditions. I am on the hold list at my library for Coming Home. Can't wait - sounds like a good one!

    1. Gretchen, we got to -6, which is not typical for Ohio either, with the blizzard like conditions. It's all new to us, we've only been here a month, LOL! I hope you enjoy Coming Home when you get a chance to read it. We visited Wisconsin this past summer and LOVED it. Merry Christmas!

  7. Your weather sounds soooooo cold! We're in Florida - today was around 80. Tomorrow it's supposed to drop down to the 40's. Still sounds better than your cold weather. Brrrrr....

The book sounds good. I'll have to add it to my list. Merry Christmas!

  10. What a great opening. I definitely want to check this one out. No snow or rain here in west Texas, but it's gotten down to the single digits, which we're so not used to here, lol. Hope you have a very Merry Christmas! :)

  11. It was so cold! Our windchill was down near -40. Grateful to have stayed safe and warm at home. I'm currently reading Gift of the Heart by Karen Witemeyer. The first line is: "October 1890, Hope Springs Texas ~ Ruth Fulbright held her sleeping seven-year-old daughter snugly on her lap in the middle of the stagecoach seat while the passengers who considered themselves her betters exited the conveyance." Happy Holidays!
