My Review:

Shadows of the Past was Patricia Bradley's debut novel. It is also the first in her Logan Point series. I have read other books by her but not her earlier works.

Once I got past the slow start, Shadows of the Past was an enjoyable, quick-paced read. Taylor is a criminal profiler and good at her job. She realizes she needs to solve the mystery of her father's disappearance to move on with her life and stop her recurring nightmares.

Taylor's path crosses with Nick when he shows up at a crime scene looking for his brother-the one that Taylor believes is stalking her. They butt heads over Scott, Taylor believes he is a stalker, and Nick spouting his brother's innocence. It quickly becomes clear things are not as they seem. Taylor and Nick call a tentative truce and begin to work together to find Scott and figure out who is targeting Taylor.

Shadows of the Past is well-written, and the story flowed smoothly. The pacing and introduction of the characters are spot on. A few threads are left dangling, but overall, you get a neat conclusion to the story. I look forward to A Promise to Protect, and wonder if we will see more of Taylor and Nick.

★★★/5

Synopsis (Goodreads):

Psychology professor and criminal profiler Taylor Martin prides herself on being able to solve any crime, except the one she wants most desperately to solve--the disappearance of her father twenty years ago. When she finally has a lead on his whereabouts, Taylor returns home to Logan Point, Mississippi, to investigate. But as she is stalking the truth about the past, someone is stalking her.

Nick Sinclair pens mystery novels for a living, but the biggest mystery to him is how he can ever get over the death of his wife--a tragedy he believes he could have prevented. With his estranged brother the only family he has left, Nick sets out to find him. But when he crosses paths with Taylor, all he seems to find is trouble.

Join the chase as this determined duo search the murky shadows of the past for the keys to unlocking the present and moving into a future filled with new hope and love. Readers will be swept into the sultry South in this debut novel from a promising and already award-winning writer.
