Love at First Sip

Title: Love at First Sip (novella)

Series: Coffee Loft Series

Author: Amy Stephens

Publisher: Amy Stephens

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Fiction

Source: Own

My Review:

Love at First Sip is my first introduction to Amy Stephens books. I loved the cover, it's my favorite part of the book.

 Things to know:

  • novella
  • second chance romance
  • abrupt ending

My biggest pet peeve is the book is written in the present tense and it does not work. It kept pulling me out of the story.

As a novella, this one seemed especially short. Not much is explained, and most scenes are rushed.

Overall, a cute story with a fabulous cover that needs more to be a fabulous book.

★★★/5

 Synopsis (Goodreads):

Everyone has a first love…
Being an overachiever, Deanna York had two.

Gavin Winston and coffee.

Excited to be moving back to her hometown to open up her own coffee shop, Deanna’s looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. The only thing she’s not too thrilled about is running into Gavin. Although he'd made her heart flutter many years ago, the two of them had wanted different things in life. And living in the big city hadn't been one of them.

Deanna York may have been the one that got away, but Gavin Winston hasn’t gone a day since she left without thinking about her. Which probably explains why he’s still single all these years later. No one wants to date someone who’s hung up on their high school sweetheart. That, and the fact he’s up at the crack of dawn every day.

When she finds out Gavin will be the one delivering fresh milk to the shop, Deanna is more than a little nervous about seeing him again. So nervous, she nearly spills a cup of hot coffee on him the morning they come face to face. Though they're both older now, there’s no denying the butterflies that have found their way back again.

Gavin knows that getting a second chance with Deanna would make his life complete. Determined to reunite with her and give what they once had a second go, he'll stop at nothing to win her back. Including delivering spoiled milk and shorting her order. Instead of calling him for help, she’s calling to let him know he's been replaced!

  1. I'm not a fan of books written in present tense either! I checked one out of the library recently and ended up DNF-ing it because the present tense prose just wasn't working.

    1. Lark, it is so hard! I wanted to love it, but I just couldn't. It doesn't work in very many books.
