My Review:
The Midwife's Christmas Wish by Leigh Bale is the first book in the Amish Babies series.
Amish midwife Lovina Albrecht and Amishman EMT Jonah Lapp are checking on one of Lovina's patients. When they return to the buggy, Lovina notices a basket that had not been there before. Upon checking it, she discovers a baby girl and a note. The mother left the baby to Lovina to care for.
Lovina and Jonah are in a conundrum. They know if they report the baby the English authorities will take her away and she will not be raised Amish as the mother intended. They set about caring for her until the mother can be found.
I enjoyed this unique storyline. I am sure there are young Amish moms who give their babies up for one reason or another, but I had never considered this before. I also thought it was fascinating that Lovina and Jonah were able to get the proper certifications for their medical fields.
This is a sweet story of two people forced together to care for a child (with a few meddling folks thrown in). It is a quick read that can be read anytime, not just at Christmas.
★★★/5
