The Golden Goal

Title: The Golden Goal

Series: More Than a Game #1

Author: Annah Conwell

Narrators: Kim Churchhill and Oliver Clarke

Publisher: Dreamscape Media

Genre: Romcom, Contemporary Fiction

Source: Hoopla

My Review:

I love Annah's books and was excited to listen to The Golden Goal. The narrators are okay, I didn't like the male narrator's female voice.

Read for:

🏒known each other since they were children

🏒always in competition

🏒brother's best friend

🏒he falls first

🏒hockey player

🏒witty banter

🏒swoon worthy moments

🏒reverse grumpy vs sunshine

While I liked the book, I did not love it as much as others of hers that I have read. It was a slow-burn romance and Sutton held onto her grudge longer than she should have. The part that got me the most is when they finally get together we get SO many make-out scenes and I got tired of her jumping in his arms and his hands squeezing her thighs. I just didn't need all that.

★★★/5

Synopsis (Amazon):

Shaw Daniels is the bane of my existence.

Always has been. Always will be.

When we were kids, he annoyed me to no end by being good at everything. He didn’t have to study or really even try. Meanwhile, I tried too much and still lost to him.

Then when we were teenagers, our rivalry became twisted. He started sabotaging all my relationships. I retaliated by doing the same to him.

Now, we’re adults and we should be able to move on. But when I become a physical therapist for his professional hockey team, it seems as though we can’t let go of our rival tendencies.

Suddenly, our teasing starts to border on flirting. Bets are made and lines are crossed. The kind of lines that once crossed … you can never go back to the way things were before.

The Golden Goal is a rivals to lovers, brother’s best-friend hockey romcom for fans of sports romance. It has all the sizzling chemistry you love, without any explicit scenes. Check out the first book in the More Than a Game series, an interconnected standalone series based around four men in four different sports.

  1. I really want to read a good hockey romance. 😭 They're either just "okay," or I end up DNFing them. Sorry this one wasn't better. I also get annoyed when it feels like the MC is hanging on to something longer than they should, and then the romance feels rushed and over-the-top.

    1. Have you tried Emma St. Clair's Appies series? They are hockey romances and I really enjoyed them!

  2. I didn't think this one was as good as her others either; I liked it, but I didn't love it.

    1. Lark, I'm glad it's not just me! I own the second one in paperback, so really hoping it is better.
