An Overdue Match

Title: An Overdue Match

Series: Checking Out Love #1

Author: Sarah Monzon

Publisher: Bethany House Publishers

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Christian Fiction, RomCom

Source: Library

My Review:

An Overdue Match had my attention from the first line. The humor drew me in. This is the first book in the Checking Out Love series by Sarah Monzon.

Libraries aren't famous for their penal codes, but some literary offenses deserve due punishments.

An Overdue Match is a book lover's delight. I was captivated and did not want the book to end. I don't have enough words to properly explain how good this book is, you will just have to take my word for it!

On the issue of mishandling of books, however, I am firmly in the camp of some sort of consequence, for to mistreat a book is most certainly a punishable crime.

A book doesn't have feelings, but it does have a soul. Life exhaled into every word by the author and then breathed into each person who reads those same words.

Read for:

🌹alopecia rep

🌹librarian and tattoo artist

🌹literary references

🌹Librarian humor

🌹witty banter

🌹bald is beautiful

🌹he falls first

🌹he sees her (I love this trope!)

🌹raccoon scene

🌹witty banter

🌹strong character development

🌹swoon-worthy moments

🌹Laugh out loud humor

🌹romcom with depth

On a personal note, my husband has alopecia. His started when he was eight. I feel that the author did a fantastic job of portraying the feelings of someone with alopecia. When we were dating my husband tried to push me away once we got more serious because he was worried about passing the gene on to our future children. I get where Evangeline is coming from and even Tai's reactions to her.

I want to keep this book but I can't because I borrowed it from the library. Do you think they will notice if I don't return it 😂? I already want to read it again and I am not a big re-reader! This one gets all my stars.

★★★★★/5

Synopsis (Amazon):

If the covers of every romance book ever published hadn't convinced librarian Evangeline Kelly that she isn't heroine material, her fiancé calling off their wedding when she lost her hair to alopecia did. But what's a girl head over heels for love to do when her feelings are unrequited? Matchmake, that's what. Armed with library patrons' check-out histories, she's determined to make at least one love connection—even if it's not her own.

Tattoo artist Tai Davis is used to people judging him with a single glance, so it doesn't surprise him when the town's quirky new librarian does the same thing and believes his bad-boy reputation without giving him a chance. He can't help being intrigued by her, though, so when he discovers Evangeline's secret matchmaking scheme, he's not above striking a bargain with her. She just has to agree to one date with him for every time she uses his hometown knowledge to set up library patrons on a romantic rendezvous. The deal is made, but in the process, they both might learn you can't judge a book—or each other—by the cover.
