Top Ten Tuesday-Bookish confessions

Happy Tuesday my bookish friends!! I hope you all are doing well. Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic isNon-bookish Freebie (The sky is the limit here. Make a top ten list on any topic of your choosing, bookish or not!). I am going to go with some bookish confessions. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and you can head over there to see what our other bookish friends are up to today.

Top Ten Tuesday-Bookish confessions

  • Last Christmas I had my husband, daughter and son each pull 6 books from the books on my bookshelf that I had not read, with the goal of having them all read by the end of this year. I have 8 and still have these 10 to read:
  1. Cold Dead Night by Lisa Phillips
  2. The Illusionist's Apprentice by Kristy Cambron
  3. Finding Lady Enderly by Joanna Davidson Politano
  4. Shadow of Deceit by Susan Sleeman
  5. Home to Paradise by Barbara Cameron
  6. The Thief of Black Friars Lane by Michelle Griep
  7. The Austen Escape by Katherine Reay
  8. The Bronte Plot by Katherine Reay
  9. The Juliet Code by Pepper Basham
  10. By the Light of the Silvery Moon by Tricia Goyer
  • I am tired of several of the bookish challenges I signed up for this year but I don't like to quit.
  • I put a lot of pressure on myself to do some summer challenges and I am glad they are almost over.
  • I will never had a huge Instagram following, I don't do reels and have no desire to. I don't have time to watch them either, so I rarely do.
  • I am great about getting my reviews on my blog and Goodreads, but I don't get them to Instagram as often as I would like.
  • I will not get a TikTok account, I don't need something else to keep up with.
  • I continue to add to my want to read list on Goodreads. Last week I hit 830 books on there and decided that was too many, so spent a little time going through my list and deleting some books that have been on there since 2020 that I no longer want to read. Unfortunately, it is still at 820 books and I read from the list all the time! I need to cut some more books from it. The last book added to that list was: Death Follows Her by Rachel Dylan.
  • I had an unofficial goal of getting all the Love Inspired books on my shelves read this year. They are shorter than the other books, so I wanted to read them and then donate them. I have not made a dent in this at all.
  • There are several books I want to buy that just came out. I am trying not to since I still have so many books unread to read (ya know, like the 10 listed above!). The struggle is real, isn't it?!
  • Not really bookish, but I have a nonbookish blog called Encounters with the Davis family. I talk about what's going on in our lives, places we travel, etc. It doesn't get as much love as it did before I had a book blog, but I do still post.

What topic did you do today? Do you have any bookish confessions you would like to confess, LOL?

Have you read any of these? I would love for you to share in the comments. To see what other topics our bookish friends are doing this week click on the image below.

  1. Ha! I'm with you on refusing to expand into reels and Tik-Tok. Nope. I don't like them so why would I make them?!

  2. I stopped doing bookish challenges years ago. It was the right decision for me, but YMMV.

    1. Lydia, I know for the most part I should just give them up, and do small ones, or ones I can read whatever books I want.

  3. I always run out of steam on reading challenges around July. I find them hard to finish...which is why when I do sign up for them, I only choose one or two. And signing up for Goodreads giveaways is what makes my want to read list grow. I really need to stop doing that. But it's that lure of a free book. ;D Love your bookish confessions. And good luck reading those books from off your own shelf.

    1. Lark, I didn't use to, but I have been changing over the last few years, so not sure why it came as a surprise to me. I used to sign up for all the giveaways, now I only sign up for the ones I really want to read :)

  4. I rarely do reading challenges and stopped the Goodreads one too, I just read, what I read. 820 books would be too daunting for me.
This week my TTT theme is Natural World

    1. Rosie, yep, I have already gotten that list back under 800, but it is still a work in progress.

  5. I am not big on Social Media either, Cindy. I have an instagram account because my daughter set it up and occasionally post, but not often. I am happy with my blog. I also don't like to quit when I decide on doing a challenge, and yes, some get tiring. I won't sign up for some of them this year. Nice choice for this week.

  6. Great topic and a great list! I feel the same way about reading challenges. I'm always excited to join, but halfway through the year, it becomes a struggle. I won't quit but there will be many I don't finish.

  7. Many of these confessions are so relatable! I therefore only sign up to the Goodreads annual challenge, only to get those stats in at the end of the year.

  8. Having family pick books from your shelf is a fun way to determine some of the books you'll read! :) And same here. They say to never say "never," but I don't see myself having a TikTok or Snapchat account. I have WAY more social accounts than I need and none are "hip" or garner attention so I don't need any more. ;) Thanks so much for visiting my list today!

  9. I love that you got your family to choose your unread books for your tbr this year. I'm also not on TikTok and never plan to be, I'm on Instagram but I don't keep up with it and I don't even know if I still want to. I don't think we need all these platforms, there's just too many things to keep up with.

  10. What a great post! :) I really enjoyed The Illusionist's Apprentice. I tried very hard to not sign up for a bunch of reading challenges this summer for the reasons you wrote!

    1. Michelle, yay, glad to hear it. I hope I enjoy it as well. Yes, you were very smart and hopefully at the end of the year, I will remember this!!

  11. Reels are okay but I can NOT stand TikTok! It's so noisy and overwhelming on there. I feel like there are always books I want to read. I can't keep up!

    1. Lisa, no, I will never keep up with all the books I want to read, but I love that I have a lot of options, but I have been trying to get it to more manageable (which for me seems to be 700 or under), so I am taking time to take off books I feel like I "had" to read for some reason or another.

  12. Bookish confessions are fun to talk about. I don't see me being on TikTok either. Just not my thing. I'm dreadful with challenges. We all keep buying books despite the pile of unread books in the house. Thanks for sharing and for visiting my blog, Cindy.

  13. I love the idea of including your family in helping you knock off your TBR books.

    1. Anne, a BookTuber that I occasionally watch has her husband pick books each year, I stole her idea, LOL!

  14. I won't do Tiktok either. I did start a Bookstagram earlier this year but it doesn't get a lot engagement really.

    1. Marg, I understand that. I don't get a lot of engagement on Instagram, but I do get some.

  15. I am terrible at challenges!! Lol. And I love that you had your family do that, that is so fun!!

  16. This post is relatable. I gave up on my reading challenges, and I've mostly quit social media because I don't like reels or short-form videos.

    1. Aj, I keep thinking about giving up my socials. Facebook will be the last one to go, I have a lot of family and friends scattered all over the world, and that is how I keep up with them.

  17. I love reading challenges, but my enthusiasm for them does tend to wane a little about this time of year. It's probably because I have done all the easy prompts and only have the tough ones left and I don't REALLY want to do them, but I also don't want to not finish the challenge, so yeah...I try to remember that reading challenges are supposed to be fun and it doesn't matter if I complete them or not. I am a reading challenge perfectionist and overthinker. Glad I'm not alone! Ha ha.

    Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

I know this feeling! I try to let myself quit, because reading's meant to be fun, but... it's hard to give up on stuff.

    1. Nicky, for sure! It makes me feel like a failure, even though it's supposed to be fun.

  19. I love this so much! You post and read so much more than I get to and it's nice to hear you don't finish them all either, lol! If it makes you feel better I rarely get to Top Ten Tuesday at all because I just don't get it done.
