Material Witness

Title: Material Witness

Series: Shipshewana Amish Mystery #3

Author: Vannetta Chapman

Source: Kindle Unlimited

My Review:

I think I would have enjoyed this one more if I had read it closer to the first two books. It has been four-ish years since I read the first two in the series. Plus, my reading tastes have changed. While Material Witness can read as a standalone novel, I recommend reading the series in order.

The Shipshewana Amish community has had a lot of drama recently, and when young Aaron witnesses a murder, the community is rocked. They can't believe one of their own was murdered. Who would do such a thing? And why?

Callie feels nothing but guilt as her nemesis met her demise in her quilt parking lot. Talk about ironic. Unfortunately, Callie is soon in his crosshairs and she has to figure out what he is after. With the help of her friends, they try to solve the case.

Material Witness is a cozy mystery, with a light romance. There are some slow parts, and parts that had too much explanation, but overall, it wraps up the series nicely. It is told in multiple points of view, including some of the children.

Synopsis (Goodreads):

Tragedy strikes on the opening night of the Fall Crafters Fair when a woman is killed in the parking lot of Daisy's Quilt Shop, and the only material witness is one of Melinda Byer's boys. The investigation takes a more bizarre turn when detective Shane Black becomes convinced the killer was actually after Callie.

This time it's a madman loose in the largest crowd of the year, and he's looking for something or someone. If they can't figure out what, one of Deborah and Callie's close circle of friends may be next.

Masked identities, antique quilts with hidden messages, an Amish boy whose handicap makes him stronger, one brave dog, and a possible hidden treasure ... this time it's nonstop action, danger, and a dash of romance.
