A Pursuit of Home

 Title: A Pursuit of Home

Series: Haven Manor #3

Author: Kristi Ann Hunter

Publisher: Bethany House

Genre: Historical Fiction, Christian Fiction,

Source: Library

My Review:

I have been looking forward to Jess's story since the series' first book! A Pursuit of Home did not disappoint! While it could be read as a stand-alone novel, I recommend reading the series to best understand the friendship between Daphne, Kit, and Jess.

Jess cares for those around her and wants to handle the search for her family's artifact on her own, yet her friends refuse to let her. She needs the knowledge that Derek has, even though she can't stand him.

Jess and Derek are the perfect team. He softens Jess's rough edges, makes her think, and challenges her in the best ways. They learn from each other, making them even stronger. No one sees her like Derek does, and it is beautiful.

This story had more drama and action than the first two stories, and Hunter wrote it well. It was an unexpected element and I loved it. I was also intrigued by all we learned about Jess, we knew she was strong, but now we understand what she went through to get there.

This story is a slow-burn romance, with mystery, intrigue, secrets, life-and-death situations, and more. I highly recommend the entire series.

★★★★/5

Synopsis (Amazon):

Jessamine Beauchene has spent most of her life in hiding and always on the move in an effort to leave her past far behind her. But when she learns the family she thought long dead just might be alive and in danger, she knows her secrets can only stay buried for so long.

Derek Thornbury loves the past, which has led him to become an expert in history and artifacts. He knows Jess has never liked him, but when she requests his help deciphering an old family diary, he can't resist the urge to help solve the puzzle.

As Jess and Derek race to find the hidden artifact before her family's enemies, they learn as much about each other as they do about the past. But can their search to set history right lead to a future together?
