My Review:
When I saw a blogger friend reading Sleep Smarter 21 Essential Strategies To Sleep Your Way to a Better Body, Better Health, and Bigger Success, I knew I needed to check it out. As someone who hasn't slept well in many years, I am always looking for more ways to sleep better.
While I felt like some things were common sense, there were also things I had never thought about. There were some things I agreed with and others that I didn't. If you are going to read the book, go in with an open mind and see what you think. I am sure there are things you would already know, and a few things you would learn.
As
someone currently working with a functional medicine doctor on many things, including sleep, some of Stevenson's tips align with
what my doctor is saying to me. For example, fix your gut to fix your
sleep.
Will I use all twenty-one tips? No.
Do I already use some of the tips? Yes.
Would I recommend the book overall? Yes. I didn't care for some of the science-type talk, but I did learn some new things, and I am sure you would too.
★★★★/5

When it comes to health, there is one criminally
overlooked element: sleep. Good sleep helps you shed fat for good,
stave off disease, stay productive, and improve virtually every function
of your mind and body. That’s what Shawn Stevenson learned when a
degenerative bone disease crushed his dream of becoming a professional
athlete. Like many of us, he gave up on his health and his body, until
he decided there must be a better way. Through better sleep and
optimized nutrition, Stevenson not only healed his body but also
achieved fitness and business goals he never thought possible.
In
Sleep Smarter , Stevenson shares easy tips and tricks to discover the
best sleep and best health of your life. With his 14-Day Sleep Makeover,
you’ll learn how to create the ideal sleep sanctuary, how to hack
sunlight to regulate your circadian rhythms, which clinically proven
sleep nutrients and supplements you need, and stress-reduction exercises
and fitness tips to keep you mentally and physically sharp.
Sleep Smarter is the ultimate guide to sleeping better, feeling refreshed, and achieving a healthier, happier life.
I'm adding this book to my TBR. Thanks for the review! I love that you're working with a functional medicine doctor. I'm a big believer in functional medicine. I wish my insurance would pay for it, but they don't. I follow Dr. Mark Hyman, a functional medicine doctor, on social media and I sometimes listen to his podcast. I have read and learned a lot from a couple of his books. :)
ReplyDeleteMeezan, I have been struggling with my health for a million years. My insurance technically is not paying for it, we are using our health savings account, but I didn't have a choice. I need the help. All my systems are completely out of whack and I am working with her to slowly get back on track. It is worth it.
DeleteLOL...I just went to add this book to my TBR on Goodreads and realized it's already there! :D
ReplyDeleteMeezan, LOL! It must mean you need to move it up on your TBR :)
DeleteNot a great sleeper either. Hope some of the tips help you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Hena!
DeleteI've been an insomniac since I was a child. It's taken a lot of experimentation and many years to improve the situation. For me, there were definitely things that had to be figured out around both food and exercise to give me the best chance of a good night's sleep. Good luck on your journey!
