Top Ten Tuesday-Authors who taught me to enjoy historical fiction

Happy Tuesday, my bookish friends!! I hope you all are doing well. Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic is books I wish had an epilogue. While this is a great topic, it's not one that I think much about. Usually I am pretty satisfied with the endings. So instead, I am going to discuss historical fiction authors that I am trying to catch up on. I picked this topic because I always say I don't care much for historical fiction, but my reading shows otherwise ๐Ÿ˜‚ Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and you can head over there to see what our other bookish friends are up to today.

Historical Fiction Authors that made me a fan of Historical Fiction:

Rachel Fordham- She has 5 books out, I own 3 (with her newest currently on it's way to me). I have read two of hers. She has a unique writing voice, lots of heart and depth to her books. Here is my most recent review from her:

Karen Witemeyer-She has written 31 books & Novellas (so far!)-I have read 9 with my lowest rating 4 stars. She writes with lots of humor and heart. Sadly, I do not own any of hers ๐ŸคทHere is my most recent review from her:

Jen Turano-she has 19 books and novellas out. I own 5 of her books (2 paperbacks, rest on Kindle). I have read 12 of her books.  Most of her books have gotten 4 & 5 stars from me, although two received 2 stars. Here is a review:

Pepper Basham-she has 17 books/novellas out with another one coming out next month (The Heart of the Mountains). I own 8 of hers (3 paperbacks, the rest on Kindle) I have read 5 of hers and all of them have been 4/5 star reads. She always has bookish characters and humor in her books. My love for her also introduced me to the Doors of the Past series, which in turn introduced me to other historical fiction writers I am enjoying, as I really like this series! I would love to own all her books! My review:

Jamie Jo Wright-She has 7 books out with another one coming this fall. I have read 2 of hers and they have both been 5 stars. I own 4 of her paperbacks. Her books are dual timelines with creepy/gothic vibes. They have been described as "mysteries stained with history's secrets." I would love to own all her books and am well on my way ๐Ÿ˜ My review:

Terrie Todd-She has written 8 books/novellas. I have read 3 of hers and they have all been 4/5 star reads. I think her books might best be described as touching stories that will stick with you, usually with a strong female protagonist. My review:

Julie Klassen-She has written 18 books. I have read 7 of her books with mixed reviews. My favorites of hers so far are the Tales From Ivy Hill series. I own 3 paperbacks of hers. One of my more recent reviews:

Suzanne Fisher Woods-She has written 43 books, some are children's books, some are nonfiction, most are fiction. I have read 19/30 of her fiction books!! Most of them have been 4 star reads. I own two of her paperbacks. Her stories are mostly Amish fiction and contemporary romance that spread hope. A recent review:

Jocelyn Green-She has written 11 fiction books. I have actually only read one of hers but do plan to read this entire series. It was a 5 star read for me. My review:

Do you like historical fiction? Who are some of your favorite historical fiction authors?

  1. Oh, what a great twist. I love historical fiction and there are always authors we prefer over others, I'll have to think which ones would be my favourites. John Rutherfurd comes to mind right away.

    Great list, Cindy.

  11. Historical novels used to be my favorite genre, then it evolved to historical mystery, then to mystery.
BUT I just listened to a FABULOUS classical historical novel, written in 1924: So Big, by Edna Ferber. Highly recommended

  16. I'm not a big historical fiction reader. It's just not my cup of tea generally. I used to read it a lot more and now I still love authors like Sarah Sundin. But mostly I'm a contemporary fiction reader. That said, I used to read books by Karen and probably others too. :)
