Top Ten Tuesday-Summer Goals updated

An Unlikely Pair (Dream's Edge, #1)
*****

Happy Tuesday, friends! Today I am excited to be doing another link-up with top ten Tuesday. Today the topic is fictional crushes. Since that is not my jam I am going to do an update of my summer reads. While summer is not *technically* over, for me it is. My daughter went back to school over the weekend and we started school here yesterday (I homeschool), so, our summer is over 😭 I have listed all the books I had hoped to read this summer and have updated them with my rating of the ones I finished. For more fun with fictional crushes or other people's take on today's topic check out That Artsy Reader Girl.

MIA-reading interrupted

You might (or might not have) noticed that I have been missing in action since Wednesday. When I started this blog I was determined to post regularly and I have been until Wednesday. While I love reading and blogging and don't like having things interrupt my reading, I was fully present as I helped pack up my daughter and move her back to college in Ohio, for her second year of college. I had some time to read (not a lot), but I was mostly focused on helping her and enjoying the time with her. I also enjoyed helping her pick some books to take with her 😀 as she is also an avid reader...I might even have bought her a new book before I left her 😂😂

While I would love to jump right back in and write the book reviews for the three books that I have finished and tell you about the current one I am reading, today I am resting. I am exhausted and I start back Homeschooling my son, who is in 11th grade this year, and I just need today to rest. I am going to spend most of the afternoon reading, which sounds deliciously delightful, doesn't it? Over the next few days, I will get into the swing of things and look forward to posting regularly again. If you are the praying sort, will you say a few prayers for my family, and especially my daughter? These transitions are hard and getting back into the normal routines is also difficult. We are a very close family and my daughter was already having some emotional issues yesterday afternoon. Thanks so much, my lovely bookish friends.

My two loves!!!!
My daughter and her roommate 😀 They were roommates last year and have a great friendship, so thankful and blessed!
Book mail that was waiting for me when I got home!!! My favorite kind of mail... I won the top three books this past month and the bottom one is for a review...

What have you been up to over the last few days? What are you reading?? What books have you added to your stacks?

Can't Wait Wednesday-The Memory Quilt

Can't-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we're excited about that we have yet to read. Typically they are books that have not been released yet. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This week I am showcasing The Memory Quilt by Lenora Worth. It's expected to release November 30, 2021. It is the first book in her newest series, Shadow Lake. It does not sound like your "typical" Amish read and I look forward to this unique story line!

The Amish Baby Finds A Home

Title: The Amish Baby Finds a Home

Series: Hearts of Lancaster County #2

Author: Barbara Cameron

Publisher: Forever

Genre: Amish, Christian Fiction, Romance

My Review:

While this is the second book in the Hearts of Lancaster County series, it can be read as a stand-alone novel. I would recommend going back and reading the first book, The Amish Midwife's Hope, before beginning this one. I did not read the first book and feel that I would have enjoyed this story, even more, had I read it first.

The Legend of the Stinky Sock

The Legend of the Stinky Sock

Title: The Legend of the Stinky Sock

Author: Laura Riley

Genre: Children's Fiction

My Review:

The title is what caught my attention of The Legend of the Stinky Sock. I thought it was clever and funny and wanted to read to see what it was about. The author is Laura Riley. Laura is a children's book author and stay-at-home mom. She currently lives in the Dallas area with her husband Patrick and her children. She was motivated to write her first book as the result of teaching her first grader how to compose his own story for a school project. His excitement and creativity encouraged her to complete a lifelong dream to write a book.

Silent Shadows

Title: Silent Shadows

Series: Harbored Secrets #3

Author: Natalie Walters

Publisher: Revell

Genre: Christian fiction, suspense, romance

Source: Borrowed from the library

Wednesday, August 11, 2021

The Chase

 Title: The Chase

Series: US Marshals #2

Author: Lisa Harris

Publisher: Revell

Genre: Christian fiction, suspense, romance

My review:

So, if you remember from my review of the first book, The Escape, it left you on a cliff-hanger and wanting more. Well, The Chase, picks up from that event and keeps on rolling. Again, sucking the reader into the story immediately. Usually, these types of books do fine as a stand-alone, but I would HIGHLY recommend reading The Escape before picking up The Chase.

Can't Wait Wednesday-Firefly Diaries

Typically they are books that have not been released yet. It's based on Waiting on Wednesday, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This week I am showcasing Firefly Diaries by C. C. Warrens. TTT-Next 10 books to Read

Welcome to another Top Ten Tuesday! I hope you are off to a great start to your week. This week’s topic is supposed to be Secondary/Minor Characters Who Deserve More Love, but that requires way more brain power and thought than I possess right now. So, I am going to go with the next 10 books that I will be reading, not necessarily in order. Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl and you can head over there to see what secondary/minor characters deserve more love, or others twist on the topic.

Courageous Influence

Title: Courageous Influence: Embrace the Way God Made You For Impact

Author: (in)courage Grace P. Cho

Publisher: Revell

Genre: Bible Study/Devotional

My Review:

But in its purest form, influence is simply the capacity to effect change in someone.

This is the third book in the Courageous series and also the third that I have read. I love the way these studies are designed and organized. I appreciate the way they are created for personal growth. You can do the studies alone, or can do it with a group. Either way, I highly recommend these studies.

What If Jesus Was Serious About Prayer?

Title: What If Jesus Was Serious About Prayer

Author: Skye Jethani

Publisher: Moody Publishers

Genre: Christian Nonfiction, Christian Living, Prayer

My review:

I thought with the size of this book that it was going to be a quick and easy book to read. I was wrong. While you can read it quickly because it does not have a lot of pages, you would miss so much about it. This book is best to be read slowly and savor each section.

A Summer Detour by Denise Hunter

Allie is dreading the trip for her grandparents fiftieth anniversary party. Her family treats her with kid gloves and her parents didn't even trust her to bring more than napkins to the party. When Allie offers to drive her grandparents restored Chevy, you would think she had a record of wrecking cars and driving irresponsibly!

You have one stray thought and then another and before you know it you have spiraled so far down the rabbit trail that you wonder how you got there? Yea, me either 😔 If we're honest, we all have. No add July update

July was hard because I decided not to buy any books or add any books to my to-be-read list on Goodreads. The plan was to work on catching up on reviews and obligated books, not adding any more obligations. Which I did. I read quite a bit and while I am not as far behind I am not completely caught up either! I went to several bookstores in July and walked out with no books for me...until yesterday. We are in Virginia visiting friends and they mentioned they had a McKay's bookstore 😲 Not sure how we have been here for 10 years and not know that (our checkbook thanks us!).
